Uncle Bob's FrankenDualSport!

BUILT NOT BOUGHT!
Amy's uncle Bob is a kick ass old school flat-track racer from back in the day. He mostly ran enduro cross country race stuff the longest but has had some form of a bike since he was a kid, and he is no spring chicken! He is full of helpfull knowledge, has tons of parts, has helped me and Alex in many ways, and has mad skills when it comes to customizing anything! He has built muscle cars, dirt bikes, enduros, street-trackers, and several Hot-Rods! He has a lot to teach, and I soak up as much as I can when I can. I have been watching him build his latest creation for a bit over a month now. More on that in a bit. He lurks here a bit but not big on taking pics and posting, but I wanted to show you guys what he has going! It is crazy. Now on to the star of the thread.
Started life as a Suzuki VZ800, 800cc V-twin cruizer. It now has a Ducati Monster seat, KLX rear fender, Generic dirtbike front fender, DR headlight cowl, off-road high beam light for headlight, shortened the swinger 2", completely re-shaped the frame (shorter), longer shocks, reto-fitted front and rear tires, some engine mods, custome exhaust he welded up, dirt-bike bars, custom fabbed luggage rack, and I am not even sure what else. He is calling it the DR800VZ. Here she is, still in mock up and working on it.

Re: Uncle Bob's FrankenDuelSport!

I've been hearing about this bike forever! And it is just as awesome as I had hoped!
BTW it's spelled dual.
Duel is what you do with swords or pistols... :p

I have thought the same, but came to the conclusion his blood flows just like ours. So, that means besides being different than the crowd, having people go WTF?, and spending time in the shop with welders/torches/wrenches; just to have something to do! He has done everything else, why not?

"I wonder what makes a man wanna build something like that?!"
I've got my money on moonshine ;D

that's killer. I love it cuz I don't know what to call it.

I wanna build a dual sport survival/rat bike when I'm done w/ the 750. for battling zombies when the inevitable apocalypse comes. this one would do the trick nicely!

Fun! I've thought on several occasions how cool it'd be to build a dualer from something more....roady.
One thing I'd look into would be a BEEFY clutch.....anyone who's ridden offroad can attest to the ass kicking the clutch must withstand.

So cool!

Swagger, I will mention it to him, thanks! I am sure he has thought of it, but no need to give him the pointer just incase it was overlooked. He is looking for a 51t sproket too, but I am not sure what wheel he used? So I am not sure I can help him locate one.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Spoken like a true friend! ;)

very very creative man, i like the idea of being able to cruise around and then suddenly get an urge to hit the trail, and being able to do it!

I just noticed...you say that the swing arm was shortened 2"!!???
Why shortened?

because that bitch was long! I had to be done, makes for a much better stance and a shorter axle to axle length, as the cruiser is long! It may get de-raked some too, but he is going to get it ridable and test it before going to that step!

Oh poopee.U derake the fork on that mamba-chambee with that large an engine and ur going to 1.Beat the crap out of the forks, and 2.make it handle like a herd of cats.If u want to go mojo fast in a very straight line, then derake the forks.Look at the pics of Rollie Free on the Brough when he broke the 150mph speed at Bonneville. The forks were canted back toward the steering hub, courtesy of the Brough engineers.bj

Its been a while but here is the official unvailing of the DR800VZ, she does have a paint job of sorts on her for the time being, but it will be getting a better one soon. Enjoy the pics and the vid, you will hear me nail the throttle after I round the corner out of the shot. My dogs are seen and you will hear the voice of uncle Bob and my father-in-law Frank talking after I pull away. The vid really does not do the sound of the bike any justice, it really sounds much better than the vid sounds! This bike rides really well and is a lot of fun when you twist on it. Some more tweekin is left and a few loose ends need tying up, but she is almost ready, and a new paint job!

Enjoy!
