Uncoiled's 78 CB550K

Got my turn signals in the mail today, hopefully will get to install them on Sunday. They are smaller then I pictured in my head but thats fine by me.

So got the rears mounted up, but they aren't working correctly, they will turn on with the switch but thy just stay on instead of blinking, same for the fronts but they are still stock. It does this running and not running. They are also really dim. My brother suggested the blinker relay might not be strong enough since the new ones are LED, any ideas? They do look good though! Now I need to shorten up my rear fender and get a new tail light and license plate bracket. Fronts will be going ton the sides of the head light bucket but to remove the old ones you have to take the top triple tree off so i left it for another day.

I also think I am going to paint the tank flat black and then do the lace overall in gloss (just on top as it is now) , but all in good time.

Finally got my front signals on and removed my old ones, its been cold and rainy so I haven't had much time to work. Hopefully I will have a garage soon and the fun can really start!

Here are some shots of it all together. Still waiting on an LED turn signal relay so they will work correctly.

Its been a while since I have gotten any work done on my ride, Christmas, New Years, cold weather, and house hunting take up a lot of time and don't leave any time for wrenching. Since I last posted I have put exhaust wrap on the bike and painted the muffler. The headers and muffler were very rusty and not very salvageable so I went this route. I think it looks great and really got rid of a lot of visible rust. I also made a bracket for the muffler so I could get rid of that hose clamp helping to support it. Haven't been able to ride, seems like all the nice days I'm working, bummer! Hopefully we will be moving into a house with a garage soon and I will have some space to really get what I want done. But the down side is that I will have a house and likely a lot more things that need to be done.

Here are some pictures!

I have the materials to build a new license plate bracket and I want to chop down the rear fender as well. Both of those will probably wait until I have a house where I can have my tools and electricity close to the bike. I will need a new tail light during that process as well. I also want to paint my wheels black, and build a new seat. All in good time!

Yes I have been using a brass brush on a drill. I also used a brush that came with my dremel that was some other type of metal and it worked well, but the brush didn't hold up. Which pieces are you talking about? The headlight ears I used the dremel brush. Everything else has been the brass brush.

Ya the shocks I used the brass. On the wheels and some of the other chrome bits I have used a very light grit sand paper as well and that works good.

Thanks for the input and explaining it in a "cut and dry" fashion. My girlfriends is a bit more far gone than yours, so there will be hours upon hours of cleaning. Although, your mountain riding story has motivated to finish this up!

New paint on the tank! I think it looks pretty awesome with the wrapped headers and black muffler. We are about to close on a house and I will have a garage so I will start in on the seat, license plate bracket, and painting the wheels black within the next month or so. Also went for a ride today it turned over 200 miles since I have gotten it.

Nice bike,
Looks infinitely better with the smaller LED signals. Have you gotten an LED turn signal relay yet? If not I would suggest superbrightleds.com PN: LF1-S-FLAT

I use one on my bike and works great.

Also, great choice in cars, I'm on my second WRB STI :)

PS, let me know if you decide to part with the gas door on the original CB tank you got. I could trade you mine plus some $. mine is the exact same color and is in decent shape but doesn't have a lock and I'm looking for one with a lock that doesn't cost an arm and a leg lol

I recently bought I a house so I have been doing a crazy amount of work on it so I haven't had much motorcycle time lately. I did manage to squeeze in some time and I got the rear fender trimmed down and mounted a new tail light. Looks much better in my opinion. Here are some shots:

Now I heed to work on a slight oil leak I have and work on the front brake, they don't stop very well...
I also started on a seat so we will see what happens with that as well.

I did get a relay and it works great, I just got a cheap Chinese one from ebay. I would be willing to trade gas doors but I don't have a key to mine so not sure it would even help. PM me if your interested and I will try to check it regularly.

this thing is awesome. I feel like i have the same story going on. I have a 2007 WRX wagon and just got a 550k. Not running yet and a bit rough because i just bought a house but soon it will be and and moving. :) btw diggin the new paint
