Understated big arse

Man, that is looking top notch! I might have to go the same route on the engine with my 450. Did you polish all of your spokes when you did your wheels as they look great? My wheels are polishing up ok, but the spokes look bad and I figured I would have to relace with new if I cant live with them.

Thanks Man!

The spokes are new, the originals were pretty trashed and although I think I could’ve probably gotten them to look decent, I opted to spend the cash rather than spending the hours it would take to polish 80 spokes.

If you’re going to buy new ones, PM 64bastagebomr, he’s a member here and has a brand new set of front and rear spokes to sell.

That is an excellent job.

Looks fantastic!

When I get brave enough to pull the motor (or something in the motor breaks) I'll be doing something similar for sure.

Thanks guys, glad you like it!

I’m going to make the rearsets and hopefully get the wiring done this weekend, then there's just odds and ends until I get the tank and seat back from paint, and with any luck she'll be done by end of June...I’m keeping 'em crossed.

Exceptional work my friend. You're not going to be scared to ride it when you're done are you? ;)

Shit! Are you kidding, once she's done my car may never see daylight again!

Great job man, I love the everything you've done so far. Normally I will disagree with at least one thing on a build (like most others) But this is just looking fantastic, well done, and definitely not tack/gaudy w/e you want to call it.

Also I understand the aluminum polish sadly, it's not much fun I'll say. But the method you used it about the same exact I use. I would recommend not starting with a coarse wire brush (also noted by you, just wanted to say it again) for any reason, it will just dig into that aluminum like no other. For really bad stuff thats not pitted I would say just use sandpaper and go in this order 150-220-400-600-1000-1500 (if you can). If you have pitting the fine wire brush will give it a semi uniform pitting to work with when you sand.

Anyways, thanks for sharing please keep posting and have a good weekend 8)

Re: Understated big arse *updated*

It’s been a while since I last posted any progress on the CB, but I have in fact been at this obsession nearly every weekend.

In all honestly I was certain I’d be done with this project months ago. I've got everything done and she starts up without any problems and idles perfectly at about 900rpm but unfortunately my friend the “painter” has been the reason I have yet to ride! It’s been 4 months since I gave him the gear and today he still has my tank, seat, front fender and headlight bucket!! Every week he tells me, “it’ll be this week dude” but man I’m about ready to just take it as is and find someone else to finish it, but then I compare what he’s charging me and his work and I quickly come to my senses!!! The guy does some really nice work! DAMN IT!

So anyway while I wait yet another “week” for painted parts I thought I might as well share a few pics of how she sits today;

totally digging the build that is the same thing i want to do the cylinders on my superhawk, just need to yank the motor.

where did you get your velocity stacks? i need new ones.

i too have been polishing all my parts, i hate it as i always have. i sued to polish my car parts, rims etc. i spent a winter in front of my tv with a tarp with a hole cut in it for me to polish vintage car racing wheel lips. that sucked to do by hand.

keep it up.

Nice build! I like the dash and the spade ends on the levers 8)

It's amazing what can be done with a Dremmel and a good handful of attachments….I used it for the spade cut outs on the battery and electronics box too but I’m not totally sold on it yet, have to wait to see what it’ll look like once the seat and tank are in place…

Drew: I got the stacks from ebay and just checked and he's got more of them listed; Item number: 230290446687
