Hi
I'm considering making new wiring for my Suzuki GT500, but am a bit scared by it.
Is there a simple universal diagram I could use for guidance? Since I have electronic ignition, kick only and want to use a capacitor instead of the battery I only need a diagram for the lights, horn etc.

there are a bunch of really simple diagrams here http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/index.php?l=page_view&p=tech_triumph_british_chopper_wiring_diagrams

there are also a lot if you just google image search "chopper wiring diagram"

very few of the diagrams have signal lights. duno if you're planning on running them or not.

This is a good one

Great links, thanks.
Still not sure I have the guts to rip it all out and make a new system, but something has to be done. It's like everytime I touch something something else breaks.

I forgot about this one, thanks James

I used this as a template to wire a friend's bike from scratch. It still works flawlessly after two years. I'm slowly accumulating parts to rewire my bike. I'll see if i can post a walkthrough on how i do it once i get around to it.

I was wondering on that diagram it doesnt show a CDI unit but my bike has one and i wanted to know if i could run without it since apparently other bikes work just fine without one.

It's not actually that hard to work out, there will be wires coming out of your generator, some will go to the electrical system, but a few will go to your cdi. They're what you need. then your cdi will have wires going out. to earth, the coil (s) and ignition/stop switch. job done. keep it simple. easier to do when you rewire from scratch.

Easy for you to say! Wish I had the knowledge to just wire a bike from scratch, I will be wiring up my GT500 soon also. Good luck DRON!

Mate, it took me days worth of trawling around the net to work it out. I'm electric phobic and I just wanted the damn thing to run. It is possible, even for a fuckwit like me. So there is hope :)

Amen to that... I hate wiring with all my heart (good thing I wire two million dollar, 140k lb coal mining machines for a living, eh? ;) ) but with patience and a big box of extra connectors and wire you'll get it man. Its all pretty simple once you break it down, function by function. Ive done a couple bikes now, and though I still hate doing it, the task has gotten easier. Still need to call Big Rich for help half the time, but thats what (extremely patient, too nice to my dumb ass, overwhelmigly charitable) friends are for! Haha.
