Universal Tanks for GS 750...

"If we can't find a way, we will make one!"
Hey, just a quick question to all you GS riders out there...Did any of you guys use those universal tanks on your bikes? If so, what mods did you have to do to the tank (mounting, frame, etc)?...I'm only asking because I'm considering buying a new tank and saving my original one because it is in good condition...I appreciate any answers!

I meant tanks that are supposedly "universal" for all bikes...Sorry for the confusion...

Pretty much any tank other than stock will need work to fit. From moving the front/ rear mounts, widening the tunnel, re-locating the petcock, etc.

Which tank are you thinking about getting?

Yeah thats what I figure, but I was hoping some of the GS guys (who has performed this mod on their bikes) could give me their feedback...But thanks for the tips Big Rich!

Which of those tanks are you using? If the length is about the same as stock or maybe a little shorter I would think it shouldn't be too hard to make it work...maybe you can pull the hardware off the stock tank?

I kept the stock tank on mine-the GS750T has a Triumph-inspired tank design that I really like...sorry I can't offer any real help, but good luck!

Hey, thanks for the tips Whiskey Pete, I was looking more at the Ducati SSS3 tank style, I think its about the size of a stock tank...

I think a lot of it is what the backbone on your bike is like. Some tanks will fit somebikes with little to no mods, others will need major frame re-design or taking the saw to your new tank and then re-glassing. Best bet is to see what the return policy is.

The kawi triples have weird frames in the backbone. Squirely got a universal tank for his and it fit with little problems, the universal tank I got for mine won't fit without some major work.
