"Unrecognizeable" CB450 in Chicago

Man you can't tell us that without providing some pics. Did I miss something the last pic is of a half finished motor...

You asked for it, you got it. Not the greatest yet, but should give you an idea.

I will have more adustability when I get the propper shift rod. That one in the photo is just a piece of straight guage rod the we bent the ends of, drilled for cotter pins, and welded another length to the bottom side for rigidity in downshifting. This was done late on a Friday for a Saturday show...

In any case, not real concerned about a little bit of rubber on the pipe. After all, it just gives the bike a little bit of sole.

Groan.

Yeah, its not hard at all. A hacksaw goes through that thin aluminum very quickly and then its just a few minutes with a hand file.

I have a bracket for it that attaches where the taillight screws mount. The bottom of the taillight housing (cylinder wall part inside the seat) is also clear instead of red, so its even a legit, legal plate illuminator.

"New 32mm Mikuni carbs with individual K&N filters. (Trying to find velocity stacks with screens. 57mm or 2 1/4inch , I believe)"
Stan at Rocky Point Cycle has screened velocity stacks that will fit your round slides. He has just about everything you need for Mikunis and gives regular seminars at vintage meets on tuning. You can reach him at 937 376 9792 or www.rockypointcycle.com . You mention in one of your earlier posts that one of the new old stock torsion bars had lost its temper. It was my understanding that the only way "a spring can be sprung" is by exceeding the yield point of the material or through annealing. Any clue as to how the NOS torsion bar lost it's temper on the shelf? I ask because my friend is building a 500T and if possible would like to avoid the same bent valve.

Thanks for the heads up on velocity stacks. I'll check that site now.

I must have been unclear about the valve/spring problem. When Terry and I first fired up the rebuilt motor, the left cylinder wasn't running and didn't have compression. Since the torsion bars were all new, we assumed that a bent valve must be causing the problem. However, it WAS the spring which was bad, not the valve.

They are 35mm aluminum ones I got off eBay. They are short...actually to the point where I have to rethink what I'm going to do about guages or at least a speedo, since the clipons make it too tight a squeeze for the stockers.

Those are the same Cerani cast copies that I have. They do snuggle the light right close but it's workable....any the look killer!

Yeah, things would probably fit a little better if I didn't have clipons mounted under the top triple.

man that looks awesome! when my ride is done we should go cruise! hell i can always pull out the Harley and we can rip... if you ever want to roll we should! bike is sick!

Well, Spring is almost here. I've been in the garage lately, servicing my 748 (belts, valve adjustment, and 3 new rockers), but then I can turn my attention to the CB. I need to iron out the one carb float sticking (with new carbs, I have no idea why) and I think I will replace the coils and plug wires since those are about the only thing I HAVEN'T done.

I'm getting itchy to ride.

More to come...
