"Unrecognizeable" CB450 in Chicago

In any case, not real concerned about a little bit of rubber on the pipe. After all, it just gives the bike a little bit of sole.

Groan.

Heh...I laughed out loud at that one......now I feel dirty.
Nice bike though, man oh man. I hope mine turns out as nice!

This is what has me busy this week...

A fellow Ducati club member and I were able to get everything buttoned up yesterday. Motor sounds strong and I was really itching to get it on the road. We could have too, if I hadn't been a little over ambitious. I decided to swap the new rear brake (old one was scuffed when it came loose one time) and install the quick change 40T rear sprocket and carrier. Got all the cush drives swapped and everything ready to slide back on the axle splines and the chain was literally millimeters too short. No go. The extra 2 teeth were enough to render it unusable and thwart my attempt to ride Saturday.

Looking like a motorcycle again though. Almost there...

Where did u get ur exhaust for your cafe build, Thats exactly what Want on my build, upswept and all. I just dont hve the funds for BCR peashoooters.

Then you're in trouble, because that's exactly what they are--the very first set of BCR polished stainless 2-2 peashooters for the CB450.

:'( :'( :'( Gonna have to settle for the repro norton camando pea shooter I guess. I thought your tank and seat look familiar.

Almost time to rededicate myself to the cafe CB. I bought a new rectifier and I think I'll go with electronic ignition. I've had a little starting issue and according to my twisted logic, rather than trouble shoot each old piece, might as well replace/upgrade everything. Then at least I know what it's NOT. Might rewire the whole bike too in keeping with that theory.

Then again, it will probably turn out to be nothing more than the smaller battery I used over the stocker.

The 748 is finally running. Last thing to do is install the new chain today. The fellow Ducati club guy is coming over later though. He got a new toy to check the tension of the belts. Instead of a $350 mechanical tool or the less accurate "feel" method we used, it is basically a glorified guitar tuner. You just use a $10 piece of software for your laptop and a microphone. Spec is 110 hertz when you flick the belts.

Here's a little video of the bike running:

dude when it warms up we are going to have to hit the highway together... one of the guys i ride with rocks that same Ducati... he is also the guy i know that does custom carbon fiber parts...

Oh man, better than a cup of coffee in the morning I love the sound of a dry clutch Duc! Nice scoot!

Yeah, its got the signature dry clutch rattle--especially with the vented cover. I shot the video with an ordinary Cannon SD450 still camera so its not the best quality (works OK for most of my videos though  ). The audio is particularly poor. The titanium exhaust is much more "bass-y" in person.

Definitely down for riding.

I'm a bartender so not made of money, but I've done a lot of long tedious Ebay hunting and got great deals on the bike and all the parts, plus just saved about $800 labor on the big service. Other than the big bore kit I wanted to do with this service but just didn't have the dough, I'm extremely happy with the two bikes I have.

BTW, you've seen the build for the CB, Here's the Duc specs:

Carbon fiber front fender, CF rear hugger, CF airbox, CF intake runners, CF vented half clutch cover, CF heel guards.
Velocity stack mounted air filters, titanium Arrow exhaust cans, Dynojet Power Commander PC III USB custom mapped by myself, TPO Dragon plug wires, Denso iridium spark plugs, magnesium 5 spoke gold Marchesini wheels, Corbin seat, Heli bars, aluminum carrier "snowflake" front brake rotors, billet rear brake caliper mount, Renthal/AFAM quick change rear sprocket carrier and 40T rear sprocket, gold 520 RK XSO X-ring chain, Ohlins rear shock, Brembo radial clutch and brake master cylinders w/ top triple drilled and tapped for reservoirs, upgraded billet clutch slave cylinder, billlet clutch pressure plate and retainers, Barnett clutch plates and springs, braided stainless brake and clutch lines, integrated LED rear turn signals/brake/tail lights with smoke lens, custon LED turn signals mounted in mirrors, rear fender/plate/signal mount eliminated, license plate trimmed, light smoke windscreen, 996 fairings, SPS tail and front fairing with white number plates, currently running Metzeler Rennsport tires (180 rear).

very cool man! where you tend bar? my crew and i will usually shoot down town around 3am to do a bit of show and shine for the girlys as they get out of the bars... we have to put them to the side once in a while as the big 110 motors in the chops tend to get really hot fast! never the less the girls are all about it at night... has panned out very well for a few of the guys i ride with, would blow your mind how many chics will just get on back and be cool riding the rest of the night... my girl is usually on her scoot behind me... so ... i rock a solo seat when we go out! ha ha ha ha

I bartend at two places on Clark Street just north of Fullerton in Lincoln Park--about 11 blocks south of Wrigley Field. Frank's (2503 N Clark) is a 4am spot and Other Side (2436? N Clark) is a 2am bar with food.

I have a biposto seat too but usually keep the mono on it (although you can still see the passenger pegs that I was too lazy to remove in the video).

Can't wait to ride. Weather is going to suck for at least the next 10 days. Just called my insurance company and upgraded my coverage. Gotta get ready...just in case, especially since I want to do a few track days this year.

Don't get me started on Rockerbox again...

let me know when you do your track days... the owner of Racer Cafe in St charles is a supercross instructor... they do all my wheel swaps when i powder them... super cool guys they almost only ride track now... i talk to Eric about it ever time i am in there... i will join you... been wanting to do it for some time now!

somewhere south of St charles... i asked if they run a vintage day to rip my cafe when it is done... but they do not... lame!

The CB450 (well, hi-comp 498) will be out at Mods Vs Rockers Saturday and hopefully the pre-weekend ride tomorrow night. Updated pics to come.

Had motor issues on the way to MvR. Damn. Now I've got to open it up again and see what's wrong.

Still made it over there, but had to ride the Ducati.

What is the finish on your frame, it looks like its been sandblasted, but is there something to protect it from rust?
