Upholstery Snaps in Fiberglass

Coast to Coast
After reading a lot of fiberglass builds here and at fiberglassforums.com, I think I'm finally ready to start my own seat build.

One thing I haven't found much info on though - adding snaps to a fiberglass seat. I see other folks doing it and I think it looks great. So are they integrated into the glass during layup? Drilled and glued later? Summoned with witchcraft?

Any help would be great.

BTW - this is the sort of thing I'm talking about. Not this seat in particular, but the way it has attached the cover to the glass:

home depot sells the snaps in the bulk fittings area

and you can pop rivet them to the fiberglass seat just make sure you have a washer on the back side

Thanks mrKill. Anything else different about using poprivets on glass vs metal? Just drill the hole, add the washer, and pop it in with a regular gun?

just make sure the pilot holes are the correct size and don't forget the washers or the pop rivets will just pull through eventually

Thanks! I'm planning to start experimenting with glass tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be snapping in a week or two.

i used a small diameter and small headed bolt and nut on the snaps for the back half and riveted or what ever came in the kit the top half of the snap (the big round part) :)
