Valve Cover Removal...The easy way.

I'm overhauling one of my CB100 engines and I've come to the point where I have to remove the two valve covers on top of the cylinder head. I want to make this as painless as possible so I'm asking for advise on the best method.

Basically what I'm wondering is if I should get a torque wrench for this job. I know I'll eventually need one, so might as well drop the $80 clams and pick one up.

I don't have 22mm socket for the valve covers yet so I already have to run to the hardware store for that...I don't wanna have to go twice!

What do you think?

You don't need a torque wrench for the tappet covers but you will need one to check the head bolts, so get both if the budget stretches that far.

A 22mm wrench might be easier to work with for the tappet covers. They don't get torqued down - just snugged down into place, with o-rings.

go to harbor freight, torque wrench for 20$, ive had mine for over a year and still works fine.
