Detroit's Dorais Velodrome bicycle racing track, like much of the city, laid abandoned for decades. Recently, a group of volunteers reclaimed it from the overgrowth and created the perfect place to race old motorcycles.

Pretty cool stuff. A nice asphalt top coat and that would be a blast on a bunch of little 160s or something similar.

Aren't velodrome supposed to be made of wood? The one in my town is...

Still, you could have some cool races at that place.

FUCK... this is a dream come true! every time i race at the velodrome i wish i could be on my motorcycle...

mine has a clay surface... outdoor are usually clay or asphalt. indoor is wood most often.

I'm gonna have to visit there soon. It's only going to take one drunken, lidless yahoo to crack his skull then out come the bulldozers.

i was thinking the sameee thing...

that tracks in pretty shabby condition, anyone who rides it should be careful!

im curious what kinds of speeds people are hitting... ive hit 35 or so mph on final sprints at the velodrome, under my own power... with 350cc's of power at my right hand i wouldnt be surprised to hit 70!

I've been there and there is no way anyone is getting near 70M's per H. that being said it would still be a blast. the straights are a little longer than your classic indoor velodrome, in fact they seem much longer than the other velodrome near by in oakland county. maybe next season i'll be ready. and believe me, it will take a lot more than one dead person for the city of detroit to tear something down. no, i see this place staying around for a long time.

that is so awsome. The first thing i thought of when i read the earlier post on the velodrome clean up was taking the bike on it. Looks like fun!

If there's a meetup, let me know. I'd be down there in a hot minute.

Looks like a blast, I love that bike that is on the still frame before you start the vid
