Very cool tail light...

vibration

Been Around the Block
Would anyone happen to know if this is a one-off custom tooled item or if it is available from a supplier? It is so cool!

If you can make a bracket, cut a pipe, And weld you could make that for almost nothing. Good first time project for sure

Cool looking, yes. A good idea, probably not. "Let's put the brake light where the car behind you can't see it".

This would be great as a set of turn signals! I might steal this and angle it out at a 90Degree angle to make it more visible around the tire!

Thanks for posting this!

+1 on a custom job...its cool, but as canyon said, iys a bit low

Look pretty cool to me but you have the issue of running wires up both legs of the swing arm and then into a harness.

Where did the OP find this pic?

I can definitely picture somebody realizing only after making them what a pain in the ass they'd be to hook up. Cool setup tho.

In theory, Yes. But there's a lot more to it than that. Is the big ring behind the lens a separate piece welded to the tube? Or is the tube machined with the big lip and then drilled and tapped. How is the socket located and secured. What kind of bulb is it, a standard 1157? What would ya'll pay for a set of those? It would be just as easy to make them dual brake and turn signal as it would just turn signal (only difference is the bulb)

Interesting that the OP's forum name is vibration - because that's probably what's going to kill the bulb in that thing after a few miles.

Also, nothing like having a warning light in a size and location where you have trouble seeing it.....

Other than that, looks good ;)

How do LED's hold up to vibration compared to a filament bulb?

Vibration is an issue with the solder joints but that's about it. Provided the LED is properly secured, along with any resistors or wires then they're practically impervious.

High-flux LED's are specifically designed with four pcb pins to prevent vibration-related failure.

Your biggest headache is going to be the wiring. My Thruxton has a license plate bracket in the same location. The wiring is ugly. PM me and I will send you a picture.

You can make exposed wiring look good. As with almost every aspect of mechanical design, if the item in question is designed first and foremost with function in mind, it looks 'good'.

There's loads of cloth covered wire with different color combos out there. On my rigid project, I plan on having most of the wiring out in plain view, using cloth covered wire and hopefully stainless steel Dia-compe cable clamps like you'd see on a road-bike (bicycle) holding the control cables to the frame. Going to braid multiple strands as needed and run along the frame rails etc.

Simply sheathing the 2-3 wires you need for a brake/tail light in heat shrink and neatly fixing it to the frame with clean zip-ties, stainless zip ties etc. will look great. Nice curves, no tight bends... neat and tidy.
