Any members had any experience with the Foreign Legion?
Just curious as my 20 year old (one of twins) has just informed me he's going to join. He's always wanted to do something along those lines (milatary wise) but nothing has appealed except the legion so he's doing that.
Yes i know he'll have to "fight" for the french which i'm none to happy 'bout (because of the 'Rainbow Warrior', not because it was a Greenpeace ship but for the fact they came and did THAT in my country) But it's his life and i think it will do him good and oddly i think he'd enjoy the experience.
A mate of mine was in the legion for a couple of years, he was previously in the British paras but after a year of civilian life realised he missed the life, he said for him the hardest part of life in the legion was the French lessons, most members these days are French. Why the Legion, is he wanting to see action?
Dont really understand why anyone would join any military, but hey the Legion has its perks. After hes done his years he'll be a French citizen which basically means a EU citizen which means he can live and work anywhere in Europe. Not bad if you ask me!
And I believe he can still join under an assumed name as well. So if he wants to go commit some crimes before he's off then he might as well!

You do join under an alias, but they also give you a very good check with interpol, so the years of legionnaires are all over now. Also it's a 5 year contract during which he is obliged to stay single even going to such extremes as getting a special permit from his superiors if he does want to get hitched.
It has it's ups and downs. But it should be a decision well thought out.
