you can see slight wear marks where our skirts have touched the cylinder from the clearance checking. How much did it add to the overall diameter of the skirt?

the gunkote is good as a paint/anti corrosion/ heat disperser type deal,that is what i used on my cylinder and head, but you want the gearkote for wear items
all of it must be baked
that is mostly light reflection
as far as adding diameter,it may add a half a thou and it pretty much burnishes in to the metal upon startup
it is not as tough as some of the oem moly coatings on pistons that seems to really hold
they used to sell it as piston kote but it was the same product as the gearkote so they just sell it as that now

i am trying to find some pictures of what it looks like after being in an engine for a period of time or a few 13k runs.

i have been using it for 30 years ,after use you can barely tell it is there but i can say from experience that it does help reduce wear, pistons last longer with it

wow cool! Forgive me I am ignorant with this stuff but If you sprayed it on your head wouldn't it encapsulate the heat?

the gunkote goes on ultra thin, not as thick like paint ,so , supposedly it will help radiate heat being balck and not allowing corrosion which can be an insulator
 
We filed our ring gap to .009 compression ,010 scraper, .009 oil

It took 3 cranks and it removed .0005 we then knocks the burrs down with 500 grit (yes you know where we buy our sandpaper)

Our bores were finished with 280 grit. Our piston to wall clearance tolerance was .015" to .022" so we chose .020" probably should have gone .018" because we were going to dress the cylinders per David Vizard's technique for plateau finishing. You can also do this with a plateau hone but the closest to our bore size was .225" and we are .224" slightly under that so we didn't want to take off too much material. We learned plateau finishing is just what it sound like we take off the peaks but we leave the valleys for oil retention and seating. We will use Gunk the original but how original no one knows and we will use the maroon 3m Scotchbrite pad 360-400 grit. Thank you David Vizard! The great thing about this technique is if you got some surface rust because you used water to cc your cylinders instead of oil it will remove it. ;)

if you have a 400 grit flex ball hone a few quick passes will do the same thing its the standard today

with moly rings and synthetic oil
