That's how it works .................... I'm having a major E-Bay clear out in the next month in an effort to get all the last pieces together for my THREE projects - + money for alloy wheel builds, powder coating, Gold passivating, and paint materials.

Don't know what it's like in Canada / US - but here in Europe we've had this stoopid directive where all chemical based paints [ as in solvents ] are now banned ! Paint solvents are now WATER based.

I've narrowed the choice down to two specific Reds for the Vindicator.

Yes, you can still get Cellulose and 2 pack - but the prices are astro fuckin nominal.

I'm pretty well there with all the major parts, and at least this one doesn't need a frame !!

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Same deal with the paint here.

IF I'm lucky enough I'll be traiding a Dunstall tank and some Redwing shocks for some flat slide carbs. The last piece I need to make the bike fire up. The rest is wiring and work.

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Monza caps - price naturally depends on volume ..........any interest ?

I have to order minimum 25 pieces [ take out the 2 for me and 3 for mates + 20 ], but if the numbers increase - say 40-50 pieces, prices start to come down.

I'll get ballpark figure for WORST case scenario [ 25 ]

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

All the parts to build the wheels finally arrived. 2" front flanged alloy rim and 3" rear ditto, the Grimeca hub / brake is now in my possession together with the torque arms and twin pull Magura levers.

The rear XS650 hub has been polished but I'm taking all the parts [ rims, Grimeca ] down to the polishers for a final dogs bollox job before I have them built with new Stainless steel spokes - can't wait ! 8)

Undecided about the colour to paint the brake plates - Red / Black / Gold ? What do we think ?

While I'm down at the polishers I'm taking the yokes [ triple trees ], the Brass Monza gas cap and my clip ons - which ar a bit corroded from standing around so long ! ::)

The guy who plates our RAM springs is doing the sprockets and all the Allen head engine case fixings [ Gold passivate ].

I'm also undecided about which seat base [ tail ? ] to use - Duke 750SS or the Ajay 7R. I'll try them both at the weekend and try to decide. The 7R / G50 style tank is nearly finished and I'm hoping to get the final patternmaking done next week so a mould can be taken off.

Not only that - but my eldest Daughter's boyfriend came round at the weekend and fixed the leaking roof on my garage !! ;D

Two days of rain and bone dry - result. Another friend is rustling up some 4 ft. flourescent light fittings - so no excuses now ! ;)

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Glad to see progress. Is final dogs bollox job have something to do with the roof ;)

Absolutely - I actually want to go into my garage now ! Before it was always damp / wet and gloomy By the end of the month I'll have decent lighting and power supply.

Could be interested in one of those Monza caps BC, depending on price of course.

Crazy

Working on it mate. Naturally price depends on volume. The MINIMUM is 50 units and I have to try to pre-sell half that. The freight / duty / VAT is at best a guesstimate [ albeit a good guess ], but the initial figures look like a retail around £35 here in the UK, with a discount available for my DTT friends. They're currently selling for £40 - £45. If Brother Joe over at DWMS takes orders and we drop ship, that will bring the prices down again.

I'm pretty certain I'll order 50 at least irrespective of pre-orders as the prices from source are already creeping up - + 20% in the last 12 months.

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

All the parts ready to go off / have gone off and flourescent light fittings will be installed in my DRY garage this weekend.

The wheel builder is in Poland at the moment, but is starting on my wheels next week after he gets back.

At last something is moving. ::)

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Real progress at last.

STILL waiting for the installation of the lighting and power [ next week], but in the meantime I decided to have a good sort through all the parts I've been accumulating for Cafe Creme and Vindicator.

Here's the pile of parts that will eventually become Vindicator ! I've got pretty well everything I need now, especially after my deal with my old pal AC for the grimeca and othr parts. I even got a line on a guy that says he can make the stainless steel Vincent 'esque exhaust system. I've seen some of his other work and it's very good and not expensive. The same guy is completing the mods I started when I altered the rear swing arm to move the axle location forward 2".

My wheel builder's back from Poland now, so the next time you see those rims and hubs - they'll be wheels !

I'm pretty certain I'm going with the AJS 7R seat [ tail ? ], the Duke 750SS didn't look quite right somehow. More work on the tank buck required, mainly to lose some more of the depth, but also I want to round off some of the corners now [ I think ? ].

This donor has the very sweet 17K mile engine, so just a service and starter motor refurb. and it'll be down to detailing. All will be shot in Black wrinkle and then again with satin or matt black [ unsure which ]. I'm having the cam covers and other odds polished to accent the motor, but can't make my mind up about the edges of the fins - polished or black ? That said, I'm doing the brake plates in Gold, so maybe a matching set of engine covers ?

The Amal Mk2 Concentrics are still 7 -8 months away due to the manufactiurers having ongoing problems with the castings [ made in Italy ] - so it may well be down to Dellortos [ a la Ducati ] - or maybe even something Japanese.

Finally - I got a guy who can make up the Vincent style tank badges. He makes the repro Vincent items - so they will be spot on [ "Vindicator" !

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

BC, much as I like Vincents and Vinnie replicas, maybe this bike should have a different name. With that G50/7R look to the tank and seat, maybe stay with an AMC theme for the name as well.

How about a winged M (for "Mine") and G92 or AJS (for "Another Jap Special") 9R or 9S for the Street model. Time to be different and to break the Vinnie mould/mold. :)

Or do an AJS looking TCR - Traditional Cafe Racer badge.

Teazer,

thanx for your input .... however "Vindicator" was chosen because of it's dictionary meaning apart from anything else ! Once you've gone down that route and given the V format etc., etc. - the Vincent style badge becomes almost a given !

Not very adventurous I grant you

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Just dropped the Grimeca off for a final dogs bollox polish before taking everything down to the wheel builder.

When I got there he was polishing Yamaha fork legs for some guy !

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Hubs back from the polisher - down to the wheelbuilders on Friday.

They have a 3-4 week lead time at the moment - ah well.

I love the smell of progress in the morning...

After this year John I'm happy with progress ANY time of the day !

I know it sounds a bit lame, but getting my garage watertight HAS made all the difference to my enthusiasm.

And when there's light and power installed next week.....................................

See what I mean ???
garageoct2012.jpg

Some of the stuff out - only half way down the garage so far !

No "final" pic yet as I'm still working on clearing the SEVEN BMW frames and odd parts from the rafters. THEN I can install the lights fittings

Re: TR1 /XV Traditional Cafe Racer

Wow Manfred! Your garage looks like my garage (and basement and shop and storage unit)! Gotta look at "right sizing" LOL.
