Vintage Guitars

I've got a 1990 made in Japan Ibanez 540S

Really versatile guitar, there's a coil tap on the humbuckers plus a 5 way switch for pickup selection so you can get an amazing number of different tones. Unlike most "superstrats" of the day it's a solid mahogany body.

I picked up this mid 60's Italian made galanti grand prix, and refinished it in butterscotch, it's got sweet push button pup selectors. sounds CRAZY!!! I play it through my mid 1960's Gibson Falcon made right here in the great state of Michigan. lots of work done to it.

well...a trip to Pittsburgh Guitars made my mind up for me. I went specifically to play the Hofner, Hagstroms, and Harmony models that I hadn't picked up yet, when I saw it hangning on the wall...a used 2003 Gretsch 5129:

It's now mine, came with a nice Gator hardshell case...all for $500...whoo hoo!!!

Very nice! Keep it in the case when not played. That 3 piece neck could prove tricky.

This is my favorite axe! I also love a good Les Paul! You have to love the guitar named after the father of the solid body electric! A real Les Paul, twin humbuckers, a marshal double stack, and marshal power head! You can explode brains! Hit the right power chords and young boys will instantly snort a thick white line and teenage girls, well lets just say moist! Heavy distortion and a Wa-Wa! Oooohh! I love Rock!

I also love blues, so you can see why I have passion for both of these guitars, and while I have a guitar, and have played for several years, I still suck! I guess it is one of those natral abilities I just dont have! Whish I did though!

My guitars aren't that vintage, except maybe my Yamaha acoustic which is probably as old as i am. I have a pair of 90's Godin electrics that i love to pieces. They are such good guitars. my amp i found in the back of a pawn shop for $500 quite a few years back and have been hammering it ever since. The speaker box is a Peavey Black widow twin which my auntie gave to me. She has a Gretsch also, it's been so long since i've seen it but i know it was a 1950's model and it doesn't get played much anymore as it's worth too much.
Anyway, i love this amp. Handwired British 6 valve head built in the late seventies.

I'd love to say I have a collection of vintage guitars, but sadly I don't. I do have a Gretsch 5120, a 72 Telecaster Thinline reissue, and the only 'old' guitar I have is my original 1980's Japanese Vantage Flying-V. Just pair them up with a small Fender 600 Champ (reissue) amp with some improved tubes.

But sadly I don't play a lot. Keep the Fender at work to play with once in a while (my boss plays a lot and has one here too), the Gretsch and Vantage at home.

I'd like to see this thread keep going.

I played this rig last night:

'71 Fender Bassman with 2x12 Avatar cab (Celestion Greenbacks)
Danelectro Pro and a bunch of pedals. The pedals aren't needed. SImply crank the Bassman to 5 and let it rip.

I sold the Keith tribute Epiphone Les Paul as well as a '59 Kay Galaxy hollowbody and bought a GIbson Les Paul Goldtop. I've been playing the '50s Gibson Les Paul Tribute Goldtop for about a year. The P90's trump a humbucker any day.

ya, i got a few. 2000 gibson les paul standard with a g500 in the bridge, reissue fender esquire (tele) that i dropped a burstbucker in, a junker/gigging squire esprit that i'v frankinstiened, epiphone acoustic jumbo body, 12 string acoustic yamaha, quest acoustic beach guitar, squire jag bass thats frankinstiened as well. soldano decitone 100W with a jumbo 4*12 mesa cab for my guitar amp. and for my bass rig i got a mesa fathom running through a old traynor 2150 cab with 2 15" jbls. i guess the only thing i have that is vintage is the traynor cab...

Absolutely love seeing a guitar thread on here. I don't have any real vintage guitars at the moment, just an old japanese guitar from the 60's I'm trying to get back into playing condition. I do have an old Danelectro amp though, I think it's a '59 but it's hard to tell for sure on some of those old ones. Also have an old Kustom bass rig, from 1970. Used to have a Fender bandmaster from '69 too, awesome sounding amp, wish I still had it.

However, as far as getting that rockabilly sound goes, some p90's a tape delay and a good tube amp will make most any guitar sound rockabilly. I've been playing an epiphone dot studio that I put some p90's in and put a bigsby on and it sounds pretty damn good for the price. If you're trying to LOOK rockabilly though, you need a gretsch. Been dreaming of a G6118 with a bigsby for a few years now, just wish I played enough to make it a worthwhile investment. Still though, all time favorites are the old mosrites, would kill for a Joe Maphis model.

The amp im playin is a 70's Vox AC30 I rigged with my Grampa's Orange head.
He also gave me a 50's Scott kit 80 WATT Tube amp.
That Danelectro is just sexy. Same for that Kay. I had a Vanguard but the neck snapped.
This tread shall live on!

I have a thing for the Danlectro/Silvertone brands. I have owned a handful of Dano basses and guitars. I used to have a beautiful Silvertone bass amp/cabinet. I sold it in a moment of weakness when I was younger.

Hence "JustinLonghorn"? Always wanted one of the dano longhorn basses. Been looking for a nice vintage dano baritone the last couple years too. They make one of the best cheaper spring reverb pedals too.

I came across a refurbed '72 Silvertone 2x15 cab with SUNN speakers for $100 last week. I doted on it for quite a while. Played my Bassman and Ampeg heads through it with a Mustang bass. It would be great for a Stooges type band.
