ok not to be "semantic" or "semetic" which I cant not be...but...yes I dig what you are saying about expensive...heres the thing. The whole world is expensive except for the rare exceptions of rag pickers here in North America. We have the advantage that all the really great brands came from here and because of that we can find great deals like a 20 dollar buco at a goodwill. This does not change that fact that a buco is a van gogh painting compared to a joe rocket jacket! Also...this doesnt not mean that because you cant afford a 1k jacket you dont want one. Until you have seen one you just dont know. Also, the Japanese are like "advanced" humans. They already have mass transportation, poor resources, great infrastructure, no crime, cool style and live with a "few" incredible purchases every year. Soon the rest of us will learn to live this way so dont knock it its coming to a culture near you. On a final note, if you want to know what to look for look for this...top grain veg tanned steerhide or horsehide, if you dont know what that is go to your local vintage store and ask for help. Also, look for old tags cotton or linen stitching and or any of the brands mentioned. Finally cut, it should fit tight, and look old that is how you find a good jacket because and this is perfect honesty here, there has not been a good jacket made outside of japan (with very little exception) since 1975 , and those are just the facts, arguments are coming but I cant help the way the world is. It will continue inspite of other peoples opinions!

David. P.S. there are some iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnncredible jackets on Ebay this week circa 1920 to 1955 I will post pics after some of the auctions close on my blog!

hi himelator,
hmmmm.... aside from being on the wrong thread (this one's about the Australian bush fires) me thinks you've (at least partially ) got the wrong guy. But I'll respond, you say...

"I dig what you are saying about expensive...heres the thing. The whole world is expensive except for the rare exceptions of rag pickers here in North America. ...I couldn't agree more

then you say....

"Also...this doesnt not mean that because you cant afford a 1k jacket you dont want one. Until you have seen one you just dont know."

...... I've seen em, had one on (a thing of beauty indeed) ...I can afford one... I don't want one.

then you say...

.... I don't recall knocking the Japanese. I believe any referal to anything Japanese was complementary. (Japanese people comments welcome)

as far as what to look for goes.. thanks. And I won't argue with you about leather. You the man. but regarding E-PAY ?? I'll keep my eyes open for the unaware seller, just as you do. But ebay generally??.. no thanks.

I know you are responding to some comments I made on the 'Vintage Leather' thread. nice thread btw.

im with you on the ebay thing...I can say that sometimes somethings are so beautiful that money becomes less relevant...like my wife and her obssession with expensive shoes..she will not spend less than 400 dollars on shoes anymore...she bought one expensive pair and now she can never go back, so now its one or two pairs a year instead of 4 or 5

I just bought this TT Leathers jacket for my chickie. Again, it wasn't expensive...but it's pretty badass.

hey.. you bought that for your chickie?... Im pretty sure that I saw you at the Eaton Centre sporting that jacket on saturday bud..!!...I wasnt sure but now I know for sure!!..LOL.. I thought I recognized ya but you look different in a pink paisley skirt!!.. ;D

Nice spot work on that jacket...

;D

You gotta be tough as nails to sport pink paisley....or the complete opposite. I'm wearing a white shirt. What does it mean????

This jacket is def for my chick. Size 36 is pretty small. I'm more of a 40-42 kinda guy.

I like the jacket but I'm not entirely shit hot on the red. Are you a ginger? If so, that's too much red. Is it Lewis Leathers?

no love for my newly acquired vintage leather?

Doesnt red turn pink in the sun?...or fades into pink??.. ;D

Well Hey.. you can always dye it black...or matte black with rattlecan Tremcald ;D

ha, I wasnt really a fan of the red at first. I saw the auction and said "man, if only it wasnt red!"

but then I felt the jacket calling to me... and I couldnt resist. As far as if it is lewis or not, I have no clue, I prob wont get the jacket for a few weeks since its shipping from canada.

also, let me point out how cool this jacket really is.

p.s. I am a bit afraid that when I receive it, it will be far pinker and less red than it looks in the pics..

well why stop at the red leather.. may as well go all the way and get the gerry-curls... ;D

dont know about all that! But I am considering a pill patch or paintjob on the back...

I think Im going to order akira from amazon, its been forever since Ive last seen it.

It's really similar to a LL Red Monza GT

Michael Jackson looks like he has a rotting parasitic twin in that photo. If he didn't have such diddler vibes, he'd be bad ass. The man can dance like no ones business.

Red was often used as a "spotlight" color in early motorcycle jackets. It was hard to dye and often showed up in school jackets, but in the 1950s and 60s Lewis made special editions in fireengine red and Blue. Case above. I think on a good looking girl red is hot..it says sex and who can bitch about that, nevermind you are much more visible to traffic. Also the leather on that jacket is spray finished no worries about fading

Heres one of my jackets that i scored in a thrift shop for 40 bux. Not sure how old it is.

In order to tell how old a jacket is i need to see the label, the liner, and the zipper done up to the top to see the pull and stopers on the zip. But your jacket looks like a well made 1980s double rider

Himelator, do you have an image gallery someone with your collection? I'd love to take a tour!

Im in the process of building a website, unfortunately I know nothing of programming and am working on the charities of others. So if someone in toronto wants to become more intimate with "my collection" in exchange for some programming Im all ears

Aw man, if I were anywhere close to Toronto I would probably take you up on that offer. Were you looking to have a custom image gallery coded, or just general website help?
