all this is true especially the monkey thing

Well, I have 2 full bikes and 1 that just needs a motor... So, don't worry that's already happened. I had to start keeping them separated.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Did you make any progress on the mold? We should do your place Tuesday and mess with this stuff.

First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Got 1 layer of glass on. Going to let this dry, take it apart then throw a couple more layers on it.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

nice fiberglass work!did you use epoxy resin or smthing different?
did you use any wax between form and fiberglass?
would you recommend that kind of fiber mat you used?

i m exactly at the same stage of my build!!

I covered the tape in a car wax. Seemed to work well. I just went to napa and picked up a kit. It's not actually glass but some sort of cloth. It's suppose to be stronger but it's a pain to work with. Makes a huge mess with strings and won't do corners worth a shit. If I was to do it again I would go real glass.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

If I was to give advice, first would be to buy a seat, if you reaaaaly want to make one, measure your mold 100x to ensure it's even, I had to cut mine and reshape it a bit today because the two sides weren't even. Turned out ok but it's been challenging.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Been a super long time since I've posted much on this, there has been a little going on.

First, got the jugs and head fins cleaned off. I want to leave them with a more brushed look and mirror polish.

Also have been working on the frame some with mothgils. Cleaning up some of the old tabs, cleaned up the old shock mounts and will be making some new. This was because the PO cut them off.

Also tacked up some mounts for the RD400 tank that Brad made.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Been for ever since I've made headway with this, and with all the other bikes it hasn't been getting as much love recently. That being said, I threw the old seat into the trash and made a new one. The old one wasn't straight and I didn't feel like fixing it. The new one came out much better, spent a lot more time on the foam ensuring it was all even.

Hoping to get the rear of the frame sorted over the next week with shock mounts, then I can start getting everything back in the frame to start working on the fairing brackets.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Made some more progress. Worked with mothgils to extend the frame, build some seat mounts, and built out a gusset with a hole for the upper shock mount. Progress progress progress

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Last of the major frame work tacked up. Got the fame back on the table and the mockups have started.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Started to work on the rearsets. I threw on the stock passenger pegs to see how they felt. They were just about perfect.

I think I'm going to work on getting them more support but why reinvent something that works.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

More progress, got the rearsets all finished up and the exhaust hangers finished. Next up is to finish work on the electronics mounting/battery box and get to work on the fairing mounts. Keeps getting better and better.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Been a long time, long time, shouldn't have left you, left you, without a dope beat to step to..

Well, been forever since this has been worked on. Cut ties with the GT freed up some room, and it's starting to get warmer again. So, let's get back at this and try to get it done. Started mounting up the fairing, came along nicely, but I think I'm going to end up a little more aggressive than originally hoped. Might trim up the fairing to allow the clipons to come up a little. Here's where we are for now.
