Virago tank help.

I am hoping to find out the identification of this particular virago tank. It must be a specific year or model. I can not find one anywhere. I may not be able to use the one I have, but do like it and am doing a lot of fabrication based upon the dimensions of this tank. It has some rust inside that has made it's way through. I am hoping to repair with some tig work, acid cleaning and a sealer. But I am also keeping an eye out for another.

Here is a shot of a Virago with the tank, but do not know the specific model.

I would abandon the tank you have. Not saying it can't be fixed, but only because ANYTHING can be fixed. It is all too easy to put a ridiculous amount of time and trouble into a tank like that and still have a lovely paint job destroyed. You can seal it and pressure test it and fill it with fuel for a month with no issues and a year later after it is painted fuel can find a way into a pinhole and ruin everything. Of course it may last a lifetime, but as there is no certainty and surely you can simply find a decent example, I suggest it is not worth the effort. If you are serious about fixing it, I suggest you submerge it in hydrochloric acid first. That will comprehensively remove ALL the rust in minutes. (you will have to submerge it in a neutralizing bath immediately after.) My money says you will see vastly more trouble than is apparent in your photos and you will see what I mean.

Just had a quick look on UK ebay...

Thanks guys. It will run me close to 100 to strip it just to see what I have. Buying these things over Fleabay is questionable at best. I contacted original seller to see if I can send it back and get my dough back. I paid 80 for this one. I would have paid more to have a good one, but it was the only one on the auction block in US. I have a WTB ad over at Viragotech forums.

I have a spare tank from a TR1 I don't need. It's in great, like never been used great, shape inside and out, just a little loss of paint where the seat touches. I can only find one picture right now, though. It's well, black, with red and gold flakes by the previous owner.

Don't know how much the shipping is from Sweden but we can probably work something out if you're interested. Shoot me a PM!

Ugh.... Just blasted some more to show the previous owner how bad this is. He is under the impression that I can repair this with fiberglass. :)

Repair it as in moulding a new tank from the old one as a template?

Hhehe. No. He was under the impression that I could put a layer of glass over the holes to repair it. He gave me half my money back from the auction, but I lost on the deal. I am going to mess with it a bit, but already have a line on two more tanks. One in Sweden, one in Canada.
