Not sure this would be considered "Cafe" or "Street Fighter" I consider it a modern day Virago crotch rocket I guess. Anyhow Just finished it up thought I would share.

Looks like fun. I wouldn't mind seeing more details of the exhaust setup.

is that a custom made rear brake shaft on that spline? or did you just modify the stock one and place it upright to mount the linkage to it?

Never seen a crotch rocket with that type tire up front. You do realize it negatively effects the handling of a bike.

Your in the lions den of yamaha guys, tread light olmarc

o by the way nice bike and welcome to dtt

yeah watch what you say.. the Yamaha virago is the best motorcycle ever made, hands down.. leaking oil, pencil thick front forks, and a cool 1000 lbs, you just cant beat that.

The only way to really improve the front end is with a torch.

I appreciate the concern and opinion on the front tire conversion. But with all due respect I built the bike for me. I like the way it handles. Feels stable. I didn't build it to race. Just to look nice and cruse. I would love to someday do an r1 front end. But for this summer this is what I got.

Modified original brake. I don't have fancy enough tools to do that.

I understand building what you want for you and not what anyone else thinks. Yamaha never put a tire like that on any of their bikes. I tried to express my point as nicely as I could without expressing my opinion.

Is it to heavy? I guess I only hear about the handling problems. If its gonna brake while I'm riding I would like to know before it happens?

I don't see anything breaking while your riding, you've done less radical frme work than many people.
I would fit a fork brace though , as Rich Ard pointed out, your trying to hold a boulder with a pencil ;)

haha yeah like me cutting my frame with a sawsall (spelling?) na wouldn't say anything is gonna break, but with the overall length of the stock front end, a fork brace should be on the list of things to do. they are pretty heavy bikes, from the factory of course, but looks like you trimmed some fat so its probably not too bad. im also running a rear to front conversion, although I kept the stock from drum, surprisingly it brakes pretty well, and is nice and clean up front.

Shouldn't you be on the phone with your engine builder?

Welcome to DTT man.

Ha. All credit to MJ on that one.

This is a case where I figured I'd leave the fork brace thing alone - ain't goingter be doing any hard cornering with the rear to front wheel conversion.

I considered doing likewise on mine until I got a chance to throw it around some curves - now I'm just holding out for a front end swap :)

Nothing but flat straight roads in SW MI anyway ::)

(sorry guys). Not a huge fan of yammys or the virago but DAMN you made that look good... I say just do what YOU want with the bike... (ME) yeah, I'm trying to gain a few horsepower and lose a few pounds but if I have to take the functionality of the bike into consideration then forget about it. I might as well leave it stock... If I have to sacrifice getting chain oil on my pants to ditch the chain guard, I'm pitching it. If I have to sacrifice braking ability because I want to keep my front drum, I'm keeping it. If I want to put pink and purple tassels from my bar end because I like it, then I'll do it... Sometimes you do sacrifice performance, handling, reliability, etc. to get it the way you want it and that is the point of building a custom bike yourself, no? You build it for you.. It doesn't matter what you do to it anyways, there is always going to be that person or group of people that will tell you that you should have had those pink and purple bar end tassels on there.
