VM3? or TM3? Carbs?

So, I am planning on replacing the diaphram carbs on my '72 CL350, but am not sure what to go with. I will be opening up the intake and exhaust a little, so I am pretty sure that I want to go with 32mm's. What do you guys/gals think? Round slide or Flat slide? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? I must say that while I dont plan to race the bike, I want to end up with a strong/smooth running, easy starting 350.

Thanks in advance for your input!

If your not racing and you are buying new carbs you will be happier with 28~ 30mm.
The higher airspeed in carb makes it far easier to jet and actually works much better than 32mm.
I have 28mm on my 391cc CJ250 and thats enough for 115+mph.
New design flatslides are less turbulent in venturi than roundslides so theoretically have a higher flow for same size carb.
The larger flat surface does mean they need roller slides to prevent sticking in high vacuum situations (when you close throttle)
In my experience, this means they are physically much larger than roundslide carbs, you may not have space to fit them?

VM 30'S JET TO 170-155, sudco's or winners circle,,,there 2 -stoke carbs,,,,,needle jets and needles and cut away are fine..rejet the primary to sort of make it idle ,,,#45 supplied,,too rich.....must change the carb insulators(rubbers) to cb 360

I wouldn't waste your money on any of the so called kits for your bike, unless you go Todd Henning. I have VM32's on my bike, and have just started tuning, I'll be updating my thread as I tune them, but I wish I would have bought VM28's or 30s. I simply searched for the cheapest VM32's and bought them knowing I would need to rejet.

32s are too big for a stocker... even a stocker with a free flowing exhaust and electronic ignition.

go with VM-30s if its a street bike. if its a race bike, go with VM-30s also ;)

the flat slides are good carbs if the bike is being ran all out all the time, such as for a drag bike. they have a greater amount of flow then the vm's, as pj said, but this makes your bottom end pretty useless.

if your dead set on running flatslides, go with TM-28s to make up for the loss in the bottom end, but i highly recommend the VM-30s.

PJ Knows his shit. listen to him. i didnt, and in the end i just realised that he was always right ;)

Okay, so I am going to go with the VM-30's from bike bandit. I have to admit that tuning is definitely not one of my strong points. Hopefully someone can give me some help in the right direction...at least for a starting point, jetting wise. I have a stock CL350 '72, with pod filters, am at about 500' above sea level. Can anyone give me some generic jet sizes and needle clip positions? Thank you very much...I am an idiot when it comes to jetting!

Also, what throttle cable should I get to go with these?

sudco mikuni carb tuning book will make you a carb master damn quick. and its pretty cheap.

I road race one of theses lumps,,vm 30,cb 360 insulators(boots),universal snowmobile carb cable(and modify)free flowing exhaust,,,etc etc....stay away from flat slide,,if you can jet it and make it idle let us know ::).......as for 32mm mikunis,,,,,,they will work(blowed up a gpz spec engine) swapped in a stocker at the track,,and had know choice but to run the biggey's(32mm) stick with the smaller carbs
