waterbottle gas tank

I need a small fuel tank to run my motor for short intervals. The stock tank is a bit rusty/dirty and since I plan on getting a whole new tank I thought it would be easier to just make a temporary tank from a water bottle.

Any suggestions?

Just get one of those cheaper knockoff SIG's or other aluminum water bottle. Find a way to tap and seal a shutoff valve into it and call it a day. Could be used over and over.

I use a 600ml Coke bottle, works decent. PET plastic bottles are fuel safe, just make sure you have a good seal at the cap if you are doing gravity feed.

So I was just thinking of cutting a hole in the cap and using some fuel safe epoxy. Is all epoxy fuel safe?

Von,

For some reason my brain was stuck on making his idea work instead of the obvious! I actually HAVE a funnel like that with a top on it and I use it to do carb sync's and stuff, aka the same thing he is looking for! Well played sir.

Use an aluminum water bottle, the kind with the screw on lid. They have a loop that you can hook a carbineer on. Use and old mic stand or even better, an old IV stand with the hook at the top. Tap and seal in a simple petcock, add a tiny vent hole and you're in business.

Most of those funnels have a shut off valve built into them. I just checked the Aut Zone by my office and the funnel in question is $8.99.

Oh, and for a stand, head to goodwill. Grab a tall floor lamp. pitch the shade, cord and bulb socket. A properly bent coat hanger stuck in the top and youre golden for a total cost of about $5.

I made one out of PVC pipe. Wandered around Home Depot got a barb, a 1/4 turn valve, some pvc bits. It is about 1.5" diameter and 1.5 foot long. Has a cap pressed on with a hole drilled all the way through sideways for venting and for a hanging hook that goes up to a rafter.

Cheap and easy.

Here's an idea.

I use something i build years ago for a lawnmower with a split gas tank, I bought the smallest gallon sized fuel jerry can you can buy bought a brass screw in elbow drilled a hole a bit smaller than the threads in one corner heated the plastic up with a heat gun and screwed the elbow into the slightly gooey plastic let it harden and cool down... done, used it for years on the busted lawnmower, after it died, i kept it and found its quite useful...

You never know what you'll find at a thrift store...I recently got a rolling IV cart, which makes my workplace (shed) look like Dr. Frankenfurters's lab when I'm working on my bike, and have a bottle of gas hanging from the IV tower...
