Waterproof Vs. Non Waterproof Toggle Switches

Slantyface

Been Around the Block
Good afternoon guys.
I was considering a few rocker or toggle type switches on a stunt bike for a buddy and was wondering if anybody has had any issues with non-waterproof switches? I mean, I'm not making a submarine here, but occasionally unexpected rain does pop up. Anyways, what is the likelihood that these switches will fail under normal use, with light weather every now and then?
Thanks all

They won't fail overnight, but moisture will get in (even Dew) and corrode them....

Alrighty Sir. Thanks for the bit of advice. I guess we will spring for waterproof switches to save frustration later.

Most interior of switches are made of brass. While it's true they will corrode after a while, they are very resistant to moisture. You'll find the same materials in use for the inside of your stock turn signal assembly, for instance. They can take a bit of water without any trouble, but over the years it may accumulate.

Recent development: looks like we're going to put the switches out of sight. That should help keep them dry from most everything but a hurricane.
