What and where to purchase brand new/good condition carbs for XS750

manas

Been Around the Block
So my attempt at refurbishing my XS750's carbs has been somewhat of a gong show. Partially because of my lack of knowledge initially, but ultimately because it turns out that the previous owner went to town on the jets with a screw driver and destroyed any chance of getting them out.

I could drill them out and order a carb rebuild kit, but seem to be having trouble finding one for the Mark 1 Mikuni. The Mark 2's are more easy to find.

At this point I'm considering purchasing new/refurbished carbs for two reasons:

1. Better chances of getting the motorcycle started with less hassle

2. Better chances of getting replacement parts for the carbs in the future.

I did some Google-fu and stumbled upon these on Bikebandit and JCWhitney :

Could someone tell me what kind of carbs I can replace the Mark 1 Mikuni's with on an XS 750?

I see these guys put up alot of bs34's

Im not familiar with the mark 1 but http://www.mikesxs.net/ has a growing amount of 750 parts including ajustable needles
for the 34's

I have a pair of Mark I's or Hitachis that you can have. You just have to pick them up or pay shipping costs. I had my Mark II's rebuilt by Spyder Cycleworks. They have a terrible website, but service was excellent and the carbs came back looking brand new. The cost was $300 if I remember correctly. It was completely worth it to me. You can see the carbs in my build thread.

Wow. That's extremely generous of you. It would mean a lot to me since I'm having trouble finding XS750 parts here in Canada. I'll repay you for the generosity once I'm a little less poor :p

As for rebuilding the carbs, it looks like Spyder Cycleworks is in California, which might be prohibitive for me due to the shipping costs. I'll ask around for places in Canada that might do the same. Should I PM you?

Quick question : if I'm planning to use pod type air filters, would it be wise to send the carbs for overhaul *with* the pods. I say this because there would be no point in rebuilding the carbs with the stock jets since they'd have to be replaced anyways.

No problem. I have tons of parts I need to shed, and no time to E-Bay them. The MK I's came off a bike with only 7500 miles, but it sat outside for years. I can't guarantee anything about their condition. The Hitachis may not be worth your time. PM me your address and I'll ship them out. Paypal me when they arrive.

Check out http://www.speedandsportinc.com/ for any NOS part you need. I'm sure they'll have rebuild kits.

That looks like a go-to place for harder to find Yamaha parts..
