what bike would you buy with three grand?

That BMW might be worth it. It looks well taken care of. The local shop owner I get my oem honda stuff from is also a BMW shop and they have one of those with 500,000 KM (300,000 Miles) on it and have done nothing but required maintenance, They ride south in the winter and just ride, ride, ride....

I'd get myself a Buell XB9 (might be like 3300), 883 Sportster, or last resort, Suzuki SV650 (Best bike of all named but lowest cool factor).

I have eyeballed that FZR for about a month now. It has been posted on eBay at least a couple of times. Lower opening bid now. If it had been that low a few weeks ago, I might have bought it instead of my Sportster.

Last week I bought a €3000,- bike...a 93 Ducati Superlight II 900.
It's not so reliable as a japanese bike, but 10 times better to ride....

YO! Buy that R65!!!!!! that's a great deal and a TREMENDOUS bike. Also, it'll roll to 100k + miles like every other Bimmer. If I found one in that shape for that price it'd be a done deal.

Tu250 suzuki, you can buy them brand new for 39 or so.you outta be able to find a used cheeper there great little bikes and there designed with seventies jap styling and fuel injection. if i had the money for one it would be a no brainer.

i'd love to have a monster too. it's one of the few modern bikes i like the look of. i don't know if they sell for less than 4K in seattle though...

Honestly, if you are watching like a hawk, you can buy any type of motorcycle for $3000. I could post links to all of the ads I just saw, and those are just within an hour of ME, but there were really too many. Honda 919? Check. CBR954? Check. Blackbird? Check. Sportster 1200? Check. Triumph Daytona? Check. Ninja 650? Check. BMW R90? Check. Cruisers, motards, sport tourers, dual sports, supersports--the possibilities are nearly endless. Of course, $3000 could buy one, two or even three of some of the bikes we've chosen as the basis of our projects, and you could spend the remainder making the bike pretty dang reliable.

Me? I'd pick up something like this http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/2433782521.html for $2500-$2700, add Buell heads and cams, chain drive, and work on turning it into something like this:

95 and up if you go sporty man... some 93's are ok... but do not know what it is about the late 80's and early 90's but they seem to ahve more issues than a hot little blonde... just my 2c

Your 2 cents is worth more than that to me. I know a decent amount about Harleys, but I'm sure you've forgotten more about Harleys than I've learned so far. 95 and up--will do. Are we talking general build quality with the earlier evo models, engine issues...?

mainly electrical issues. i know some guys will only look for 97 and above but i have worked on several 95s with no problem... mainly the XL 1200c and s
but they also have better brakes with the floating disk up front... pretty much since the ironhead conversion to evo all sporty motors are the same since 86 to now with the exception of fuel injection and pushrod upgrades, motor mount locations, altenator upgrades, and oil pump feed lines.
but from 95 and up the gas tanks went to a 3.25, relocation of the ignition, and upgraded the petcock... the year before in 94 there were several upgrades the whole oil feed system as well as a completely new wire hareness that did not seemed to get the bugs worked out and work great untill 95.

but my personal opinion anything above a 95 is great... they changed the gearing and ignition system around in late 95 early 96 made for a much smoother and better ride...
