what bike would you buy with three grand?

talking to this guy. about how much are new tires and installation?

Depends on the shop. You could budget $150 front and $175 rear, and $40 A PIECE for installation if you want to get really nice skins at a local dealership (perhaps that would be getting "bent over" in the eyes of some). That is what my buddy just forked over for Pirelli Diablo Rossos at a local dealer. Or you can order online for much less, and take them to a friendly small-time shop that might do it for less. Shop around.

ANYWAY, back to the point of this thread--that looks like a good buy--if it's legit.

looks like i was too slow on the monster. i might go check out that R65 tomorrow if i can find a ride.

I you're interested in a cheap Monster, find a 90s 900. Don't waste your money on the smaller ones.

Check insurance rates on Ducati's. Last I heard with our local fave underwriter (Jevco) Ducati's were 2x the normal rate, regardless of age, model etc.

Jevco revamped their sportbike blacklist in May. Only the superbikes are now surcharged, Monsters are now considered standards. But this wouldn't matter in the USA, their insurance costs are a fraction of ours in Ontario where our insurance is the highest in North America.

Because the original Monster concept in it's purest form was a big, torquey motor inside a minimalist chassis. The smaller Monsters just aren't very monstrous. They may look the part but they don't act the part.

Also, DONT EVER PAY SHOP PRICES for tires.

Motorcycle Superstore, IronPony Direct, and tons of other sites will sell you tires for a fraction of what a dealer/shop will charge.

Its not that the dealer/shop is trying to screw ya, but they can only order so many sets of tires at a time. Therefore they dont get the bulk rates that the big warehouses do.

A company like Motorcycle Superstore orders hundreds of tires at a time, so they can offer great discounts.

Anyhow, like DrJ said, the baby Monsters are called "baby Monsters" for a reason. Nice looking bike, but somewhat boring, performance wise.

The BMW seems killer.

Also, looking at Seattle CL, theres about 3 bikes for sale for every 100 posts about effin' helmets or junk parts. Thats weird...

hopefully checking this guy out tomorrow

1992 cbr600 f2 for $1400

i was too slow on the monster and the bmw guy seemed shady... hopefully this one will work out.

Just a heads up if you grab that CBR..I put a K2 Gsxr 750 tail on one for a customer one time. Looks absolutely badass.

what you're saying is what lead me from a gl650 to my current ride, an fz6. i couldn't ask for a better bike. and if don't want the fairing, there are already a lot of examples of nakeds on the fz6-forum. and if you don't already know use searchtempest to look around.

just picked up a 2000 yamaha r6 w/ 12K miles. $2000! booyah. the guy is going to go with me to the dol on tuesday because he lost the title but even if that ends up being a pain at 2 grand i can't really complain.

Good luck. Missing fairings means someone wrecked it, missing titles mean you might get hussled.

this one has fairings and the bike was registered in his name so i'm hopeful i won't get screwed.
