I added 3" to my Swingarm pushing the wheel back. What length and size chain should I be looking for. Can I but an extra long one and Shorten it? Doesnt need to be any speacial chain, just has to get this thing rolling again. wont be no racing or hard riding in the future...
Thanks, looking for your suggestions...
Also is it nessacary to replace the front and rear sprockets with a new chain as well?
Thanks, havent played with a Motorcycle chain other than stock, Wasnt sure if the links could be ground and removed to shorten it or not. Ill measure the nuber and length of the links on the stock chain and order a bit extra from there. plus a set of sprockets. Thks
stock should be 530 x 94 links. Add at least 12 links. 530 x 112 is where I'd start. Push the rear wheel all the way forward. Make sure the sprockets are in good condition. The previous advice is correct. Worn sprockets equal a worn out new chain quick. Don't opt for the o-ring chains. They are great for low maintenance but rob much needed power.
if your getting new sprockets, go with a 520 size chain and sprockets. its a bit thinner, which means lighter, which means less rotational mass. new chains are much stronger then the 70s chains... you don't need a 530 on there; its overkill.
weighed a 520 and 530 matched chains and found 8oz difference. In sportbike racing, Aluminum front & rear sprockets are used to save about 20-24oz or so. There are big differences in chain manufacturers weights. There are reinforced 520's that weigh as much as a standard 530 because of the thicker sideplates. The effect on rotational mass isn't noticed much unless racing at speed and flipping hard left/right.
I got the chain for my 4" stretch 76 cb360 at d2moto.com for $39.99. 530 Oring 120 links. had to shave a few links off. What ever color you want...even black http://www.d2moto.com/s-62-chains.aspx?section=-414-344-349-
I would "REALLY" like to see a pick of your bike.
