What dissolves or cleans metal polish residue?

Polished some oxidized CB500 aluminum forks on a bench buffer. When I need to inspect the surface I need to use a dry red Harbor Freight rag to buff off any light polish residue from Emery or Tripoli. Is there something I can spray or wipe on my pieces that will easily dissolve or wipe away any traces of polish build up or residue?

If I'm understanding your question correctly :Lacquer thinner,carb cleaner,brake cleaner,alcohol,contact cleaner. First choice listed first.

I use denatured alcohol as my first bet, followed by acetone.
