What do SR500's go for on C/L - how hard to find?

Been Around the Block
Well, I picked up this junky old KL250 for cheap and am making some decent money off its parts (like net +$200 so far, with ~$500 to $700+ left to sell).

Anyway, I've been seeing the sr400 and 500's around and dig em. Haven't been able to find one around here yet (WI), so I'm wondering how often you guys see them and what the going rate for one would be.

Condition:
with title, not running, mostly clean and complete
with title, running, ratty
with title, running, good condition and complete

Thanks

Thanks Swivel. Sounds like the low range sr is at my very highest range.

I think I might be a lot safer going with something like a kz400 at around 400 w/title...

Not as cool of a bike, but not a waste of time- am I right?

An sr should probably be more of a "grail" bike for me at this point in my life...

haha bought one in rockford IL last spring for $300, but take into consideration that the motor was blown up and everything was in pieces when I got it

The SR is a good platform to work with. I don't know for sure but, I do not think they were sold in the US for a long period. Being a single the US market does not really like singles.
If our goverment would get any sense they would require step motorcycle lic. like Europe. I digress, they do share a lot of parts with the xs 650. I know there are quite a few places out there that get parts for the sr's so that should really be no biggie.

personally I am fond of the 500cc and under singles.

Good luck

Cheers

glad to see the love for the SR! got one myself and don't think i'll ever sell it :D

good luck on your search!

Thanks for the info guys. I watch C/L all the time, so if I get lucky and an SR pops up in my price range I'll totally go for it. I'm going to consider that like winning a lottery.

Being more realistic- a decent old bike with a title for ~$4-500, I'm left with stuff like the kz's or cb's I think.

There is a yamaha 650 special- that looks really clean with mags and a rear disc for $650. A little more than I should spend, but I'd probably go with it for $450 or so.

How are those?

I'm also not the most experienced rider, and don't have much of a baseline for comparison. I'm just looking to wrench, cruise, and have fun. I'd think a KZ400/440 with more air and bigger jets would get me out on the back highways at least- am I wrong? Shoot, the 440 should probably do interstate since it's a 6-speed (per a different thread I started, it seems to be borderline interstate-worthy; some said fine, some said go bigger).

What about the kz750 twins? I see them pop up from time to time...

Thanks again

xs650's are pretty heavy but my god that motor in them is pretty badass Its an extremely different feeling, I have no experience with a kz750 twin but I was looking to get one too guys have done some really cool things with them and imagine they'd be fun.

I think thats not bad at all for a XS650 shit, I may even ride up from IL and pick it up I sold mine for $1000 without a title. and as swival says it won't be a sport bike but what the hell do you expect from an old 70-80s twin?
