What do we know about vintage MC drag racing?

Nice bike. Cubic dollars I suspect. I have been checking out air clutches and rev switch shifters and slider clutches and boy could that empty a wallet fast. Fortunately we can't use any of that stuff in the class I race in, so it keeps things sane.

I didn't know that stuff existed, so it's an interesting learning experience. Now where's my mask? I have a bank to rob.

With electronic banking, do people still rob banks? :)

That is his current bike, he still has his first purpose built dragster.. although the 1320cc Kawa is out for refreshing.

Then a couple years ago he did this build thread on building a customers bike...LINKY On the guy's first pass it went 11.25 at 113mph. Not killer but this is just a KZ1000 bored out to 1105cc. With stock head, cams, and carbs.

Did I forget to mention he builds them all at home, everything but the precision head work. Sortta his own little "speed shop" for bikes here. I will definately be turning to him when the time comes.

Mike,

Have you thought of trying this?

There's a member on here that is setting up to run this (can't remember who just now).

I think I've seen that one at Bunker Hill. These are from the 2012 Father's Day race. It is a beauty!

That's gotta be it! Seeing as how Rob's shop is in Decatur, it make sence that the owner would have taken it to Bunker Hill.... local to this area and all. The closest track to me is Osceola since they closed Avilla, how about you speedfourjoe?

Von you son-ofa-bitch! I am supposed to be building my BSA this winter... now you got my juices flowin for a rebuild on the Zook. I just sent a txt to a bud on a set of wheelie bars he had. ::)  ;)

I'm a bit east of Lafayette, so both Bunker Hill and IRP(or whatever they call it these days) are about an hour away. Bunker Hill is a great place to watch racing, since it is an older, smaller type track. I've been down it in a car, but not a bike. Might have to try it sometime.

FYI when I clicked on the link above I got a virus detected by my AVG software...

Appreciate the heads up. Sent it from work ;) where we have fairly tight internet control, and I had no issues. Will pass it on to our ever vigilant IT dept.

VonYinzer:I think your best bet is just go to your favorite local track, the one you have the most fun at, and get in their weekly/monthly bracket points series.Race as often,or as little as you like. You will soon learn how much fun and how competitive it is.There really is no "Vintage drag race series" out here. There is a pent up need for it,but the economy just won't allow it right now.I have bracket raced my 1978 XS500 Yamaha twin for years, along with my 2003 Z1000 naked bike.I have met a ton of cool, talented ,competitive people over the years! It gets pretty exciting when you get to the semi-finals against 3 Busa's after racing all day/evening! Teaser: You probably know a few of the triple guys from this way? Bill "Woodchuck" Baxter.Joe Bird,Alex Hughes??

Met them all a year or two ago and spent time with them at Indy. Getting ready to try and take their cash again at Martin MI in 3 weeks time. There's no way I can win the bracket races - I don't have the equipment or experience, but I'm slow enough that there's lots of room for improvement and that may have a value.

Funny though: I managed to set a 107 trap speed on one run for a new record but the data logger disconnected itself so I have no idea what I did right or how to repeat it. May be hard to beat that one. Maybe I can take some time out of my dead slow 60' times.
