What does everyone do for their "real" job?

My last "real job" ended in 2000 when I retired.

Various auto related businesses which spanned 40 + years owning a US style Speed Shop, building Race Cars, Dragsters, and Rods until I finally settled into designing and manufacturing /selling replica Sports cars. Jaguar [XK120, D Type], Porsche [ 550 and 356 Speedster ] and the obligatory Cobra.

With the Cobra I went on to liaise with Shelby American and the man himself for over 15 years. Priceless.

I still carry out engineering design consultancy for two of my former business associates [ now firm friends ] involving Jag C and D types, XKSS, and Mercedes Gullwing. Oh yes and a few oddball projects.

All in all - a good life, and in retirement I get to "play" with various projects [ including 2 and 3 wheel ] on a weekly basis, as and when I want to - yes, a good life.

I got one of those SS forms that tell you your estimated earnings. The form also tells you when you started paying in. I started paying in in 1959! I thought time to go. So I retired. That was a year and a half ago. Best thing I ever did!! Don't have to kiss the bosses ass to get time off for Bonneville. Don't have to rush back. The year before last we had to leave on Thursday to get there for the start of SpeedWeek and leave Tuesday to get back for work. Last year we left on Wednesday and had a leisurely drive there. And didn't leave until the following Friday. Retirement beats the shit out of working.

+1 million... :)

Firefighter/Paramedic and this is my ride.

I had the honor to drive a Pierce 100' aerial platform a few weeks before I retired. Nothing quite like having to 'boot up' the truck before you use it. 8)

Film/TV editor for the last 21 years. I've worked at most of major studio's, Warner Bros., Paramount, Columbia and Sony. NBC, ABC and CBS plus done a ton of shows for A&E, History Channel TLC and Discovery. Currently free lancing for ESPN.

I sell new elevators and elevator modernizations and then I project manage everything I sell. So mostly in construction world and there has not been a boring day yet. Lots (too much!?) time spent at work and too little with family. Probably not my retirement job, but a company is quite good place to work at.

Machinery Technician 2nd Class in the U.S. Coast Guard. been in almost 6 years and stationed down in clearwater, FL about 15 mins from the DCC compound. Not many people into vintage bikes around me or at least i haven't found them. I do law enforcement on the water, search and rescue, and work on outboard engines, diesels, and pretty much anything mechanical that moves.

Right on, another puddle pirate :) I was in 6yrs before I got out as an AVT2. Clearwater was always a consideration for station. Big freaking air sta.

Very cool Sonic. My wife started in that direction but never made it. We now have lots of cool heavy tools though. :)

Thanks!
I've got about 20,000sqft of shop space and a whole hell of a lot of tools so hopefully it works out for me.
