What gauge sheet metal? Want to try my hand at fabricating

I want to attempt to make my rear cowl out of metal. I won't have any major shapes going on so it might be okay. I just need to know what gauge to use that won't be too difficult to bend but won't dent like aluminum foil. Thanks! :)

if you will not be using it as a structural piece or putting weight on it you can get away with 18g i would say. i have made small boxes out of 18-16g and they are plenty strong. would be easy enough to brace it if it did feel flimsy. but im not fabricator so someone else might have some different advice.

18-22 gauge will bend and form nicely, you may consider what type of welding will be needed when deciding what gauge metal.
22 gauge is mighty thin for a mig,but will braze well.
if you can find "tinsalloy"in your area,it is the best to work with. shapes very nice and dolleys out good.
