what is this style of jacket called?

yeah.. seems like the vintage jackets made in the UK are characterized by:
1. quilted patterns in the shoulders and the elbows
2. 1 or 2 side buckles on each side of the jacket
3. 2 or 4 front pockets
4. spot works on some of the seams
5. Red or Blue lining

If you ebay search Rivetts Leathers, TT Leathers, Manx Leathers, Kett Leathers, Aviakit/Lewis Leathers, Champion Leathers, from that same period you'll find those similar traits...

Jackets made in the US from that same late 60s/70s period are all similar to the Perfecto or the Buco styled jackets...

Jackets made by German makers of that same time period have a totally different set of characteristics...

interesting huh?

Leon, didn't Sears sell a jacket made by Hercules (I think) which had a red lining and was made in the USA. I wore my studded Rocker jacket (for the first time) to breakfast with some pals a couple of weeks ago. They all had a good laugh and my wife, who met me there, would not sit with me. On the plus side (?) the gay guy at the counter loved it    .......hehehehe. Last week I was looking at leather jackets and placing ridiculous bids in hopes of stealing another one ??? ??? ??? . I placed a bid on a Spartan Jacket and won :) :) :) . It looked like a really heavy, thick jacket and they had a nice website also ;D ;D ;D . Have you ever heard of this brand, and, if so are they worth anything??? Will post pics when the jacket arrives 8) 8) 8) . Hope I get the package while my wifey is at work...... she thinks 50+ leather motorcycle jackets is a .... uhhh..... little excessive ::) ::) ::) . Good thing she has no idea how many helmets I have :-X :-X :-X .......

Hey... no.. I've never heard of Spartan to be honest... however, my "knowledge" on vintage jackets is puney compared to guys like DrJ or Himel, both who have huge collections..

I know that the Hercules jacket made by Sears in the 40's & 50's all had plad cotton or wool linings. Ive never seen one with a red lining unless it was relined again in the 70's?.. Then again Im by no means an authority on that..

Rin Tanaka came out with a great book "Motorcycle Jackets - A Century of Leather Design" which is a pretty cool guide, but it focuses mainly on US makers, nothing Canadian or European..

Post up some pics when you get the jacket!!

Yeah, I have the book. I am going to have to pull it out of mothballs and reread it....again. The jacket should be here in a week or so and I will post it and start a new build thread for the other Ducati I am working on......

yeah.. getting jackets brought in from the UK is NOT cheap!!..

Well Leon, I got my Spartan jacket today. Size says 44 and the jacket is about a 38 maybe smaller. Guess I am going to have to put it and a couple of others on eBay Japan..... man, I hate that, it is a very nice jacket !!!! Will post some pics in a day or two......

The spartan jackets definetely run small. I have to lose a few pounds every spring to get into mine. Post up some pics, I may be interested in taking off your hands before you ebay it.

Well guys, here his my Spartan jacket. This is one sweet jacket, I just wish it was sized correctly. As I said it is about a 38...... I wear a 42 normally and it is too small. I can get it zipped but I look like a sausage. A couple of you have expressed interest..... the price is $60.00 shipped to your door in the continental US. No tears or rips, color is very good/excellent, and all zippers work like new :) :) .

Yup, that is my spouse. She is about 5'6''. I just measured the jacket and found out that it really is a 44. I tried it on and it fits me really good..... just a little tight but I like them that way. Then I remembered.....duh....... I was wearing a hoodie and a cut-off vest when I tried it on the first time. So it really isn't a 38, sorry guys. Now I do have a couple of smaller jackets which I need to sell...... I think one of them is a Bristol if anyone is interested....... the other one is a german maker and it is part of a race suit. Prices will be $35 (shipped USA) and $150 (shipped USA)..... any interest, I will post pics tomorrow.

Cool. I have the same spartan jacket and they do fit tight. Like a glove. The less looseness the better the protection. Like I said, I always need to lose my winter weight before I can get back into it. I put it on right now I feel like Chris Farley..."fat guy in a little coat"
