What just happened? Did I just buy my wife a motorcycle?

A few days ago I started this thread asking opinions on the CL175. In all my thinking, I failed to mention it to my wife. For some of you, not a big deal. For my wife and me, we only have the joint checking account and generally discuss any purchases over about $30.00. Yes, we live on very little.

Anyway, I'm coming home with the CL this evening trying to figure out how I explain to my wife that I brought home another motorcycle. I figure I don't have to work too hard because I plan on cleaning the carbs and giving it a good clean and then flipping it. I get in the house hoping my wife hasn't seen it. Maybe I can get it off the trailer and slip it around back without her knowing? Totally dishonest, but I wasn't thinking clearly. She says, "So what motorcycle is that?" I explain the story (which none of you care to know) and she's good. No "looks" if you know what I mean.

As I'm explaining to her that it's a smaller bike she says, "Small enough for me?" Wait... What!? Not what I was expecting. Insert some "blah blah blah" here for the rest of the conversation.

Fast forward....

I get the bike off the trailer and in the backyard. Taking advantage of what seems like interest in the CL I call her out back. She gets on and likes the feel of it. I think I even see a small smile. Get this. She says, "Get it up and running and I'll do some practicing in the backyard with it" WHAT!?!?! Then she tells me that she wish she was a little smaller so she could get her mom's riding gear since her dad has decided he's not going to be riding anymore.

What just happened? By no means do I have a wife that hates me riding. But she never shows interest in riding herself. Mostly because we have a 3 and a 5 year old. She wants to be the responsible one of us. So who knows, maybe tomorrow she'll wake up and decide she wants no part of it. But at least for tonight... I think I just bought my wife a motorcycle.

Tomorrow I'll get a few pics of it. For now, here's a picture of it at the previous owners house after a washing.

Sweet!

That WAS your plan all along, right?

My Mrs. tooled around the yard on the rebel 250 a few dozen times. She didn't want to do pavement, but she did have fun in the yard with it.

Enjoy!

I came home one day with a 49cc Yamaha Vino I bought for my wife with the profits from a (very good) purchase/sale I made a few years back, and she didn't have her license. She does now :) and she's eyeing the 1966 Honda CA95 I hauled home a couple years back. She's going back to get her full motorcycle license (in Ontario you get a 'limited speed' license for the small scooters which is no good for anything above 50cc).

It's a cheap way to make it 'OK' to have 3 bikes in the garage and two more stashed at friends places.

Awesome!!! Very similar to what happened to me when I bought the little cb200 I am working on. Had every intention of flipping it until my wife sat on it and almost immediately laid claim to it

Dean,
That is so funny. You got owned. lol
I think regardless it willbe a nice little bike. I was reading your post earlier when you were asking questions about that bike and i was thinking to myself that "I" would like something like that. Well keep me in mind if you decide to flip it.

Well I think that worked out for the best! Your wife is gonna ride now and you get to keep that little gem in your stable.

Sure it was. ::) Shoot, after I realized I had made the deal and hadn't talked to my wife about it I had a time of thinking I should call you and see if I could keep it in your garage. ;D
We'll see if my wife ever makes it to pavement. She had a spill on some rollerblades about 8 years ago and got some decently painful rash from it. I wonder if remembering that pain will keep her from going to the pavement.

I guess there's hope.

Nicely played!
It is a clean little scoot, I'd put my wife on it.

Yeah, I got game I didn't even know I had. ;) Should have done this sooner.

She still riding it? Or are you still working on getting it up and running?

I'll keep you in mind. Funny thing is, I'd like to have it too. Just figuring I wouldn't be able to keep it. But after she talked a little about keeping it I said something like, "Yeah, this would be so nice to have around and do some around town scooting. Shoot, It'll get better gas milage and might even be good to ride to work." Again, no "look" when I said this. Who are you and what did you do with my wife?

Dean, Great story and a nice clean scoot. It appears to be in really nice condition and would be a perfect starter bike for the love of your life and maybe she'll let you run it around to check it out and make sure it's running right and all the other excuses I use to ride my wife's bikes.

Lucky dog, I wish my wife was that cool... we both like to dirt bike. But the day I bring home a motorcycle all hell broke loose.
