What kind of beer do you drink?

Growing up and spending a fair bit of time Germany with my grandparents, my loyalties lie with micros (Reinheitsgebot) beers. My favorites are light (in color) unfiltered hefeweizen (Hey-fuh-vie-tzen not heff-uh-wisen) with no fruit flavors, and the yeast out of the bottle. Poured from a 0.5 l bottle all at once into a glass to make a perfect head. I also like the Alt style beers as well. I alway really dug the German traditions that go with drinking beer--to wit, family, friends, and a good time.

Here in the good ol' US of A, Coors yellow bellies are my beer.

making me thirsty...better go find one.

I enjoy German beers, Had an Octoberfest at my house. lots of German beer there. sadly I don't think anyone that came was German. I Guess that ruined the point? Oh well Germans make good beer and know that beer is a must in October. haha

Full Boar Scotch Ale - Devil's Canyon Brewing Company

Black Butte Porter
Obsidian Stout- Deschutes Brewery

Eel River Porter

...to name a few. Damn...now I'm thirsty! :p

(edit) BTW, if you ever get the chance, check out the TMGB live. You won't regret!

I took a Dogfish Head brewery tour a little over a year ago and hit it off with the guy leading the tour. (We both like to home brew.) I hung around after everybody else left, and the guy asked, "Wanna try a 120 minute IPA that was aged in sherry casks for five years?". The answer was yes, yes I would.

He poured more than the usual little sample cup. It was 18% alcohol. It was amazing. Beer fans may now drool.

Russian Rivers Pliney the Elder IPA. Just about the best there is! Just got a case for Christmas. $120.00 well worth it! :)

Love that stuff. It's from my home town here in Radelaide. I wish I could still manage a regular beer cause I used to drink litres of that stuff.

Since we started spending more time at our place in Saxony we've had plenty of time to discover the local bewing traditions. My favourite is a Bautzen Bier - courtesy of the Brauhaus Bautzener. Every Summer we get a keg of each [ 2 x 50 ltrs ] for our Pig Roast & BBQ. One is Dunkler Bock and the other imiginatively namd Bautzener Original from a 1516 recipe. All brewed on site below the guesthouse and restaurant.

The village Oktoberfest [ Reichenau ] takes place in our field next to the house - 100 yards away ! In return for using the end of the house for the advertising banner and use of the field - our beer is free.

They start erecting the marquee on the Tuesday before the event. Usually the tent is up and the goodies arriving by Wednesday - that is then the excuse for the workers to sample the goods for the next 48 hours until the event officially opens on the Friday, finishing sometime Monday !

BTW - the game with the log - drive a 6" nail fully home with 1 blow and you get free beer all night. After 5 hours of drinking I had difficulty hitting the log, never mind the nail.

Best ones are belgian ! I recommend Chimay (the red tagged one) or Duvel. I found them at the liquor store next to my place when I lived in US.
Enjoy them, but beware they are very strong...

Seasonal beers I'm drinking right now:
Great Lakes Christmas Ale - Easily Great lakes best- but there's a reason we call it Christmas Jail- everyone has a story about it!
Columbus Winter Warmer - love this stuff but have only found it in one bar in Cleveland so far.
Great Divide Hibernation Ale - Awesome stuff here.

Non-seasonal:
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale
Bellhaven Scottish Ale - very hard to find, the place I used to drink it at closed!

My favorite cheap, drink on a budget beer- Rolling Rock!

Seriously, no one here makes their own beer? You guys are missing out! I started homebrewing about 6 years ago and it, along with my bike, is one of my primary passions. For $30-40, you can make a 5 gallon (50+ bottle) batch of something that perfectly suits your own preferences.

Photo Nov 23, 1 34 55 PM (HDR) by RStutzman, on Flickr

I used to. I have to say it in the past tense now, because it's been two years since I last made a batch. Prior to that I was making at least two batches a month. And for my wedding, I brewed up five different varieties of beer (total of 40 gallons). Because I did it all in one weekend, it was mostly extract w/grain or partial mash.

I need to get back into it. All of my equipment is collecting dust.

Now we are talking my language, beer!!! For me this will be my all time favorite beer:

Bohemia (dark pale ale)
Negra Modelo (dark pale ale)
Dos XX (brown bottle)
Noche buena (dark pale ale and only seasonal)
Estella Artois
Blue moon
Red stripe

And here and there I might drink a miller lite, it 7:45am and now I am thirsty my friend.

I have yet to go to Dogfish Head's Brewery... It has been a trip that I have been meaning to make. A couple other dogfish favorites are there hellhound, Indian brown ale, Raison d'Etre, and Squall. yummy... ;D

I go there regularly even though it is about 140 miles from home. I conduct business in the area from time to time. Been going there for 15 years.

Don't care for the Raison d'Etre. Too fruity for me.

My two favourites are Creemore Springs Premium Lager, they also brew a real nice Kellerbier that is above average.

I'm also pretty fond of Innis and Gunn, Oak Aged Beer from Scotland. I prefer the original, but the Rum Cask and the Blonde are quite tasty too.

I used to go to college in Chico so anything from Sierra Nevada brewery sends me back to some really good times. Summerfest happens to be the best...

I am currently drinking some of this:
