What to Update on a BSA?

The idea here is to custovate the bike, keeping as much of its original character and style as possible while at the same time giving it modern bits and internals so it'll run and run strong when it needs to, handle better than ever and and look good in the process.

Im looking to bounce a few ideas off of the more knowledgable on here in regard to updating the guts on a BSA A50. So far Im looking at completely repalcing the electrics and have been in contact with the guys at lowbrow with what I'd be looking at in terms of parts.

Im also replacing the suspension, with CB 750 forks up front and maybe Hagon jobs in the rear....not sure though as a budget is in place and I have yet to price out rear shocks.

I've also been considering a carb update of some sort, but Im not sure if a: it is a mod worth doing or b: what to use? I see alot of Mikuni carb updates out there and am wondering if something along those lines could work.

SO besides the electrics, suspension and carb....am I missing anything else that could use an update? Also, if anyone has any experience and/or advice on the above mentioned items, feel free.....just no haters please..... 8)

Sounds like a good starting list, to me. Get the bike back together, ride it, and then make a list for the next time around. :)

Yeah, you've hit the big ones.
Suspension technology is so much better today than it was then it's really not even fair to compare them.
Braking is also much MUCH better.

I would say to 3 most important aspects to improve are Tires, Brakes & Shocks/suspension.
A carb upgrade would likely be a big step up in reliability, as would an electrics update.

Sounds like a fun sleeper/ resto-mod project!

Keep us in the loop, if you please...

Thanks for the encouragement! ;D Once I get things moving along, I'll start a build thread for sure. Just waiting on a final word from Lowbrow on details for a suitable ignition replacement and I'll be ready to start pulling triggers on a few things.

Also of note is the custom front end, which has tentatively been arranged through Bullit customs. Looking forward to that as they do some real nice work! It's gonna take a big chunk outta the war chest, but I think it'll be worth it.

I could use some suggestions on a suitable carb replacement though....even shove in the right direction is a big help.

Cheers ;)

Talk to the guys at www.thefactorymetalworks.com

Brit customizing specialists. Lots of era correct replica parts. I love LowBrow, lots of parts for my 98 turned 48 will be coming from them. But always look at other sources too, no one shop is the be all end all of parts, tech and generic cool stuff.

Just open the link, sit through the bike slide show and drool is worth it. 8)
