What to use for petcock gasket

Hey all, Quick question?

I am almost done with my project (1973 TX650) . I want to get my bike started soon.
I treated my tank for saftey measures with POR-15

So I removed the petckocks, and under them were the rubber gaskets.
They were still nice and soft when i pulled them out. I tried to re use them and gas leak from in between the petcock and the tank. I think there was some sort of sealant on them, but can't remember.

Mine petcocks are not the ones that uses o ring type gaskets, it's just a flat piece of rubber with one hole in the middle and two for the screws.

Is there some sort of copper sealant that i'm suposed to use. I know I'm not suposed to use RTV

So what can I use to place on both sides of the petcock gaskets?

Can anyone recomend something?

Thanks in Advance

Eddie

Any gosline resistant sealer should work. Check the parts store. Theres a few different things you could go with.

i went though like 5 attempts at making one for my XJ750... ended up getting what looked like cork board from the auto store and it worked great!

U can actually get gasket material from most good auto parts stores in small sheets and "roll ur own." Coat both sides with a thin coat of gas resistant sealer , let it air dry for a couple of minutes, reinstall the petcock and let it dry overnite.should be good to go. did one like that for my "saki and 4 months later no drips,no runs,no errors.bj

Thanks for the tips guys,
I got some gas resistant sealer yesterday. Permatex High Tack Gasket sealer part # 80062 It says it will not be dissolved by Gasoline, kerosene, brake fluid, trans. fluid, etc...I just put it on the gaskets on both sides and the bolt threads and I'm leting it dry according to the instructions. If it doesn't work I will use that and THEN buy some cork sheet to make me a new set of gaskets. I can't believe they want $13 for a small sheet of cork. LOL

Geez, that cork material is around $7 here. What makes your cork sheets so expensive?

Kidding man, let us know how it works out.

You know how many bottles of wine you gotta open to get all that cork? LOL

Anyhow. it turns out the product I used WORKS GREAT!!.
And I got my bike running, first crank, I am amazed. i'm going to post my results on my build thread.

I'm stoked, All I now need is my running/brake light and a new set of turn signals. and of course, get my seat back. ;D

thanks for the tips guys,
