I need to clean up some greeeeezy oily parts on the motor this weekend....what works best for removing that shit? Preferrably something that doesn't need to be rinsed off afterwards. If their is such a thing!

Seriously... You have to rinse... try Simply Green or WD40 with a stiff brush.

I have used Brake Cleaner on occasion but it gets expensive.

Alright. Mainly looking to clean out around the front sprocket and inside that case cover. Got a build up of chain lube and road grime

I've always wanted to try one of those small portable steam cleaners. You'd need to wipe/scrape out the bulk of the material first, but I think heat and moisture would be a good combination to get rid of the leftovers.

You know....I never thought of that! I think my mom has a steam cleaner ;D Maybe I'll give her a shout and see if I can borrow it. Might be easier than trying to keep water out of areas that shouldn't have water in them! LOL I never even though of using a steamer

Simple Green seems to work best for me. I have used it on my old, really beat up 72 Chevy Pick-up, The valve cover gaskets leak real good too. :D

Simple Green is good, But I've been having extremely good luck lately with this stuff called "Super Clean" it's in a purple bottle and they sell it at walmart. It cuts the nasty shit with minimal scrubbing, but you still have to rinse. I'm on bottle number three right now!

Next you're going to be asking us what to use to clean the steamer with so your mother doesn't wail on ya for making it all greasy ;D

Simple Green is AMAZING! Super Clean is cheaper though, I'll use them both depending on my wallet.

My neighbor told me that Engine Starting fluid will do the trick. He brought a can over and sprayed this caked up area of my engine and it cleaned right up. I'd suggest rinsing afterwards. The fumes are pretty strong though so you should be in a well ventilated area.
