I've got an 81 that needs a seat and tank treatment. I've got no problem fabricating brackets and what-have-you so it doesn't have to be a bolt-on affair, though that would be nice. So far, I'm looking at one from a GS650E or an early GSX1100. I've always like the Manx style tanks with squared and set-in sides so I'm hunting for something sorta like that. It may come down to my finding something close at the boneyard and taking the 'ol GMAW to it but I'd like your opinions on the matter.
The stock tank is great for a cruiser or chopper but totally unacceptable, IMHO, on a cafe bike. I've already considered the ease of making it into a bobber but I don't want to go that route.
I'm hoping to do the seat at the same time, glassing it myself unless someone knows of a seat that happens to fit like a glove out of the box.
