Wheel Truing and Dyna beads for balancing

Been Around the Block
Me and a friend are buying a wheel truing stand and are going to attemp true-ification of our wheels this weekend. Another buddy has a No-Mar tire changer so we are going to borrow his garage and true the wheels and install our new skins. Is there any tips or tricks anyone can recommend to make the truing process go smoother? Also, he has a static balancer and stick on weights....but also has Dyna beads for balancing. Anyone tried them in tube type tires? Says on their site that it will work...

i have used bead balancing on chopper builds, that way you do not have the weights exposed on the large chrome wheels. looks much cleaner... but for doing your own man, you may just watn to look into good ol fashion weights

When I had my wheels built, and tires mounted/balanced, I had them use nice chrome spoke weights. Not those adhesive lead plates. If these beads actually work it would be a nice alternative.

Friend of mine works at a shop that does tires, and he said they use the dyna beads on all their Semi Tractor tires. Says they work slick. Figures they should work on a bike too. I may give them a shot and see. He did say once they were in the tube, you could not re-balance with weights running the same tube. So I would be out $20 in tubes if I am not happy with the result. I'll let you all know how it goes. Will probably be a few weeks yet before the bike is road worthy. Any tips for truing the rims?

I have built lots of wheels, motorcycle and bicycle.

This is the way I do it. After the wheel is all together, start seating the nipples, but try to get them the same amount of threads down...you want to start with the roundest/on center rim you can. Take your time. The more of them you do the easier it gets, but I cant stress the patience bit of this. If you try to hurry this process, you will fight it to the end. Make small adjustments on every spoke until you get a nice true wheel.

Good luck! Remember that you will never true a fucked up rim, so start with straight stuff to begin with.

Putting anything in your tires (dyna beads or slime balancer/sealer) in order to balance them sounds like a bad idea.
Why bother truing them if you're not going to properly balance them?
I'm just sayin'.

Well, the rear trued up no problem. the front....well, it's as close as it is going to get. The rim is fuggered. Going to do some looking and probably build a new set of wheels for the bike. For now, I think they will work to get the bike on the road and running good. I rode them last year around town, and they seemed alright. As for the dynabeads, a lot of the VTX guys I know are going with them now. I put them in. Figured I will be remounting the tires on new rims at some point anyways....might as well see how well they work! Instead of costing me $100+ to have a shop mount and balance the tires, I paid $5. Worth a shot in my opinion for that. Saves $95 to spend else where! I'll get some pictures of the new skins tonight...
