Wheelies...

Wheelies are the devil when you don't mean to. Hahaha

This is how I did it the first time- by accident. Scared the hell out of me. Then intrigued me.

Lots of interesting views on the subject. I was afraid to post about it, because I didn't know if there was an unspoken rule about being a dumb ass on your bike (first rule of wheelies is, you don't talk about wheelies. Second rule of wheelies is, you DON'T talk about wheelies). I did imagine it might be hard on the forks to drop them back down after a real wheelie (which I cam nowhere close to doing), and that's half the reason I ask. I'm not worried about scratching or denting anything, the bike is pretty much a giant scratch and dent. But I didn't know if I was going to waste my clutch or something doing this...

When I was trying it yesterday morning, I felt like this

But I actually looked like this

When I first bought my Aprilia, all it took was a twist of the wrist to wheelie. Left the Rock Store one a.m. lifted the wheel all the way up the road. I didn't do it on purpose, but I couldn't back out of it and look like a dork. Of course I am a dork and didn't fool anybody...

Hahaha!
Still is better than the only two wheelies I've ever done. The first was the first time I ever rode a bike and the second screwed my arm up for over 6 months. Better luck to you! :)

Hey xb33 do you do your wheelies for distance on your TLR ? I severly starved the front cylinder for oil on mine riding wheelies for distance.

no ,only shift a gear or 2, no long, high up, balance willies
yeah i have heard of it being a serious issue

On my sports bike, it was very easy to wheelie. Couple of different ways to get the wheel off the ground:

- 1st gear, quickly accel and let off - the bike will dip forward and compress the forks. use this momentum to pin the throttle just right and it will "pop" right up. Known as "power wheelie"

- as you mentioned earlier, while at speed, slip the clutch, the revs will jump and once the clutch engages again, the bike will pop up. I find it to be a bit more controlled this way, and not as violent.

Not sure if your bike has the power to get the bike to its "balancing point", which is what you need for longer wheelies.

yeah itll destroy that front cylinder for sure :-\ but man it was easy to slip that clutch in second and send that front wheel skyward ! torque for days on those bikes and rev pretty high to.

I did that on my first run this spring.
It was my testdrive on a gsxr 1000 i owned about 2 weeks :'(.
Spoiled the entire season of riding.............

Get an RD. You'll be able to wheelie all day. In every gear
My R5 does it if I want to or not in 1st . ;D

Kelly says I'm too old to be poppin' wheelies. I'm fairly certain she is mistaken. :p

But i agree with the other guys, learn on a dirt-bike, much easier and cheaper. ;)

I like wheelies... but ive got a xr100 I've invested a grand total of 8 gallons of fuel, and fresh duct tape on the seat in that works great for wheelies. Not my daily ride. Well, its a cb750 with clipons so wheelies aren't exactlyeasy. It will do one, but why risk it? I've got a lot of time and money, and sentiment invested in it. If the bike is one that you are ok wth risking the damage with, and its a controlled situation, go for it. But I'd highly recommend using an old beater to play on.

Torqewheelies are the far most easy thing to do.
Get your hands on a old shitty RR bike, flip of the tupperware and throttle.
Raise the frontend in second gear and throttle it untill its time to shift gear.
Remember to allways have a foot on the rearbrake when doing this...(Personal experiences)
Or a 250 smoki`n dirtbike makes grin! ;D

An old motocrossbike that you can ride the shit outta i think he ment.
A cheap sucker with power enough to lift the front and a backbrake if u need to get it down in a hurry.
ALLWAYS have a foot on that!

Yep. Old dirtbikes are prime for it. I wouldn't use something I've got hard earned money invested in unless I'm just that comfortable doing it. And I'm not. My first on road wheelie was nearly fatal, and my next (and last two)were dangerous at best. Ill keep my shenannigans in the dirt..

I flipped over a couple of years ago at a cbr 900rr when shifting from third to fourth gear (about 160 km/h).
passing the exam in roadrash and burns you might say..
Took me some weeks to lift the wheel after that ride!
I still do the wheelies, but not in such high speed, and mostly in the mud :D
