Where to buy sheet metal

Been Around the Block
I am about to start my cafe seat bump and in preparation, as I will be learning all sorts of things with this aspect of the build.

I am buying a welder, but do not know what type of sheet metal I need or where to purchase it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Odd place to look but try a sign company. I use the aluminum sign blanks that realtors use for a lot of my fabrication. They can order those sign blanks in steel if you don't want aluminum. An 18" x 24" sheet shouldn't cost more than about $20 retail. Oh and it's a fair gauge metal.

Google sheetmetal for your town. Or ya wanna tel me where you live and I'll do it for you.... Come onnnnn.......

Not to be a jerk, but some of the questions posted are straight up silly. Too much hand holding anticipated for male adults. Like people dont look, just ask, because we're obviously entirely too convenient.

Non-galvanized, 16-14 guage, where? I don't know your town... And your gonna blow holes every 3 seconds unless you tig, gas, or braze. A flux core lincoln from Home depot will just frustrate the crap outta you.

Good luck

I know... Jerk-ish...

I agree, here and the other boards I subscibe to.
It's as if using the search button is way to much trouble.

Jerk-ish answers - just keep your responses to yourself!

To the helpful answers - thank you!

Was looking at what type (guage, aluminum, steel, etc) to get and what type of places y'all go to get said metal.
I can always google the info myself, but looking for info from the - been there, done that - crowd.

I am using 1/8" aluminum (5052) sheet. Hopefully it will work out. Hasn't gotton here yet.

P.S. your best bet on a welding machine is a tig welder and even better would be pulse tig. and if you plan on welding aluminum you can only use the mig or tig high freq. processes. ohhh and aluminum welding is not easy at all. dont use a grinder on it "tigerpaw" wheels and file only. and a wire brush will be your best friend
