I'm building a 1970 CB450 for my wife and I have some CL450 pipes that I really want to use or even cut and make something like cafepete had on his BOTM mock up picture. My question is, are the stock CL high pipes really bad to ride around with because of the heat or is it not to bad. My wife always wears pants when riding, never shorts. I just don't want to spend a ton of cash building the exhaust just to have to go another route after she rides it once bc it's unbearable. So any advice from you folks that have had or do have high pipes on your bike please chime in. Many thanks

If you haven't seen it this is what "cafepete" had mocked up on his bike
I was hoping that I would get some positive feedback in favor of the high pipes! I love the way they look and I am planning to keep the guard in place no matter what mufflers I end up running.
I've a stock 75 CL360. Never had a problem with heat off the pipes and I've ridden without the shield for a week or two. I think they set the bike apart from the rest of the pack.
Only downside I've found is when it comes to carb tuning it makes it a pain because you'll have to pull the pipes each time you want clear access.

Good point about the carbs. Glad to hear it's not too hot on your legs, that's the main thing I'm after bc I really love the look and I already have the pipes so I've been looking for people's input about what they lke/dislike about them.
