Whoa! These bars are thick!

Been Around the Block
I've got drag bars on my bike and decided to order a pair of bar end mirrors. Not nice Napoleons, but the Emgo knock-off version. When I tried to mount the mirrors I find the walls of the bars are really thick which makes it impossible to insert the brackets. Other than drill out the bars, is there a way to get these mirrors to fit? I tried some rubber bushings with a bolt through them, but even that was too fat for the bars.

Here's the mirror:

It shouldn't have anything to do with the thickness of the bar. I had the same issue with probably the same mirror. If you loosen the locknut out to the very verge of the "clamshell", you can force them in ever so slightly. It should be enough to get them into a 7/8 bar. You just need to make sure the nut doesn't slip past them or it won't tighten into place. Gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet comes in handy here.

and lube...it always goes in easier when it is properly lubed!!!!!!!

I loosened the nut to the bitter end, but the edges of the "clamshell" are still wider than the inside diameter of the bars.

BTW... gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet is probably my favorite mechanical technique.

Are they alloy bars? Or do they have a thread insert on the ends (for bar ends) ??

I'm just trying to picture why they are so thick-walled ???

did you try sticking your pinky in the bar to see if there is a lip from the cut? mine required a little reaming to get the mirrors on...
