Who's installed a dan moto digital dashboard - having tachometer issues

Been Around the Block
I installed the Dan-moto Nano dashboard, it has the same functionality as the "Classic" round unit or the 180 unit, but without temp sensor and fuel gauge.
Everything works fine but the tachometer, i hooked it up to the negative coil terminal (positive is fixed power) but i see no reading what so ever.
i know the coil is good since the engine works fine (both cylinders)
it's 1984 suzuki GSX400, electronic ignition, 1 coil per cylinder.

I sent an email to dan-moto and they replied that i should use a Y connection from both coils with diodes.
does this sound right?, isn't the fact that i don't get any reading (not half the turns, not bouncy...nothing) indicate that the unit might be defected?

the gauge is set to trigger from 2 impulses you are only giving it one to count

get the diodes and do the y it will then start to fire

I found this drawing, but aren't the diodes suppose to be the other way around?

It looks like the diodes block Straight 12V from reaching the tach...The signal comes through the 100k resistors.

So I suspect the diodes are the right way........

Car tachs put the resistor internal and work directly off the 12V pulsing signal...

Everything is working except the tachometer, after few back and forth e-mails with danmoto support, it seems that i got a faulty unit.
they will fix it for free but i need to ship it over to china and i hope they'r not going to charge me for shipping it back to me + i bett it will be at least 4 weeks before i get it back :-(

Hold on now..let me get this straight..
They sent you a unit that, after trouble shooting, they determine is faulty. They sent you a faulty unit. Now they need to replace said faulty unit and state that YOU have to pay for shipping to CHINA for the repair/replacement of a unit that was received not in working condition?!
If this really is the case, I think you need to put on your mean face and demand a replacement unit shipped immediately along with a return label for the faulty unit.

they didn't say it's faulty,
they said that if i think it's faulty after all the tests i did, i should send it back to them and they will fix it. i hope that fixing means a new unit.
there's only one unit involved.
I do expect them to send the repaired \ replaced unit free of shipping cost.
