I'm not surprised - you should see some of the questions I get from some of the squids that come by the shop. Like the guy who complained that his clutch was slipping (on a new CBR1000RR). I had to back off the adjustment screws a good 1/2" (down at the engine case) to get some play in the lever.
Bottom line is that a lot of the squidly types don't have shit for brains when it comes to mechanics. All they want to do is buy the bike and look cool.
Which is why I hang out in places like this. I can always respect someone who can go at least basic wrenching to his bike.
I don't think it occurs to any of us that we (aftermarket tuners/builders/hackers) are NOT the norm and Gixxer boy with the supercaffienated bike is actually par for the course.
It's pretty easy to sit back and say the guy's an idiot and bash him for making a f*ck up - but we all have done something stupid as a squid that we still regret / will never forget.
I've done some boneheaded things, like over-torquing important bolts to the point that they snap off (BTW cam cap bolts on a kz650 are torqued in inch lbs, NOT foot lbs!!!) but I can honestly say that I've never been retarded like the two window lickers in the example threads...stupid mistakes made by newbs are completely acceptable and expected, but idiocy of that caliber makes a strong case for selective breeding!!! Ranks right up there with the young mother who made local papers last year when she suffocated her 2 month old baby because she duct taped the babies pacifier into it's mouth so it'd stop falling out...
Why? Because people openly talk shit about absolutely bone headed stupidity? Stupidity is WAY different than ignorance. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge due to the lack of exposure to knowledge. Stupidity is the sheer talent of being capable of dumping ENERGY DRINK into your gas tank. I don't care how little you know about bikes/cars/anything gas powered because no one has bothered to take the time to show you the basics, if you're fucking retarded enough to not notice the big fucking print on the front label that says ENERGY DRINK and go ahead and dump in 40 OUNCES of ENERGY DRINK into your gas tank you deserve to be belittled for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. If YOU take offense to that because the DIPSHIT happens to ride a crotch rocket like you do I'm sorry. But the fact of the matter is, if the DOUCHE BAG rode a cafe racer/Harley/chopper/Vespa/Goldwing/trike/(did I miss anything?) I would still be talking all the shit that I am about him because HE'S A STUPID DOUCHE BAG and deserves to have shit talked.
I've never been over to caferacer.net, but from what I've heard it's a bunch of purists that shoot down and flame people because of individuality and different ideas about how to build cafe racers. This is NOTHING like that. This isn't even people who know about wrenching talking shit about someone who doesn't know how to change oil. This is the sheer stupidity of some douche bag that doesn't deserve to own/operate ANY motor vehicle being hilariously funny. Not like people are talking shit because he had a different take on how to pull off a cafe racer. Not people flaming him because of his choice in a brand. Sorry again if you take offense because the douche bag in question rides the same type of bike as you...but stupid is as stupid does, and the rest of us have the privilege of being able to laugh at stupidity. Plain and simple.
Funny thing is I get the distinct impression the original post was a joke, meant to provoke just the sort of reaction it did.
All this has proven is that we all enjoy flaming the crap out of someone who says they did something so blatantly silly. What a waste of energy (and I don't mean the NOS energy drinks or whatever it is the guy purportedly poured into his gas tank).
Not sure what any of this has to do with what sort of bike the guy rides or rather, rode. What I'd love to see and would enjoy watching time and time again would be security cam footage of the guy walking out of the gas station snack shop with two ice-cold bottles of NOS energy drink, carefully pouring them into his tank, and then trying to drive away.
Maybe I'll go whip up a video of me doing just that, post it up on YouTube and see how quickly I reach millions of views and recieve death threats etc. for being so 'dumb', when in fact it would be an act of pure artistic genius, illiciting all these wonderfully strong reactions and debate from otherwise sane reasonable people.

i feel pretty bad for the kid with the ZX. that is an understandable problem that was (kind of) out of his hands. i am no means a pro yet on motos (lol ask PJ) but ive always taken it under myself to try and tear shit apart and figure it out for myself. i think its half the fun of learning about these machines.

+1 I've been a member of GDC for years and a lot of the members don't believe it either! His newest post claims he mounted his license plate wrong which caused it to break off. Now it's hanging upside down. He wants to know if he'll get in trouble if the po po notice. See what I mean? He's just fuckin' around having a laugh.
