Why are people so obsessed with excess? Sure, the craftsmanship is great. The paint work is really top notch (though ugly IMO). To each there own and all that, but man some folks just like to pile it on.
Just dont get it.
By the way, these were taken by a friend at a MASSIVE local car/bike show over the weekend. I had to work so I was unable to make it. There was apparently a huge crowd of people swarming these bikes (all built by the same dude) the entire day. Right down the road were some really nice restored vintage HDs, Triumphs, and some cafe styled bikes. Almost nobody cared to see them. Blech...
What?! That scarface bike is da shitzit!!!!! No, im kidding, really. There is a car show down here in august that is the same way. Ill be putting mine in it this year, and fully expect to get the "you.aren't from around here are you?" Stare.
Ouch Von. Those bikes finally get rolled out of their air conditioned, heated, humidity controlled, garage-mahals and see some sun and you have to spoil the party.
And I can say that because I haven't seen a single one of those bikes outside of the cruise in NB. I mean, not even down at Jerry's drive in- where there's actually some decent cars and bikes EVERY weekend.
Ya... The New Brighton and the Beaver Falls car shows. Those are the ONLY places you see those bikes. Twice a year. The guy who builds them is a painter originally. A year or tow ago I met him and asked about getting a gast tank painted one color. Thats it, just one color and cleared. No horrible graphics. No airbrushing. Just a blue color I liked with a pearl clear. He quoted be $450 + materials. When I told him he was nuts he asked me if "I knew who he was". He than went on to tell me that he was the "top custom builder and painter in PA."
Over the top and in your face. The "Just because you can" does not outweigh the "therefore you should" in this case.
Agreed, admirable craftsmanship, but tasteless result. And yet people flock to it. I remember a local car show here a couple years ago. Some old dude rode in on a "rat rod". This entailed a two cylinder Triumph engine in an abortion frame. It was painted rust and with a brush, and actually sat with the frame on the ground at the show. Had Corona bottles, tractor parts, and other junk on it as well. And the crowd ate it up. He won the motorcycle class...
I think I saw a racer rolling through the War Streets on Saturday night. I was hanging outside enjoying a beer and saw her go by. Couldn't get off the stoop fast enough to see what it was though.
Ya know, out near me I keep seeing these 3 or 4 cafe bikes. I can never quite get a good look, but what I do see is rad. One is def a vintage Ducati. My step-dad tells me that they all hang at a bar called "the Lounge" near his house in Economy Pa. Ive been trying to catch one of the guys to shoot the shit, but no luck as of yet.
meh, im perfectly happy with my bike being out of the limelight. then again it would be cool if people looked at it as much as these heap o turds....
oh wait, now i remember why I have my cb350... its because I enjoy riding what I want to ride, and don't give a rats ass what anyone else thinks about it
now guys, lets go back to being the awesome underground fabricators we are, and nod our heads in silent approval of the masterful craft present on this website.
