Hey everyone I joined up a while ago and have just lurked since. While I'm deciding on what bike to buy I was researching gn 400's. They seem like really cool bikes but I was wondering if I can get parts fairly easily like I could on a cb. Also do breaks and things like sprockets etc. are they the same on most suzuki's of the era? Thanks guys

Like most Suzukis, the GN400 shares about half its parts with other bikes. Non-motor stuff can usually be found in the GS line, drivetrain stuff in the SP line, obviously. For instance, I recently swapped my stock 16" rear for an 18" from a GS450E.

They're kick-only so if you like a starter button, move along.

They also have a fairly high steering head and long forks which makes them poorly suited for a racer but a very stable all-around bike in general. Shortening or swapping for shorter forks starts to trim your trail very quickly.

The CDI's are starting to go and NOS items are stupid $$. There's a guy on the Yahoo GN site who's successfully swapped out the stocker with one from a Honda. Join the GN400 Yahoo group if you haven't already.

Thank you very much for the reply. Where can I find which parts will fit from the other bikes.

I found a gn about an hour for me on craigslist and was trying to set up a time to look at the bike but I think he dropped off the face of the earth, haha. I can't find very many of these for sale and I would like one because they make for a really cool cheap build. Do you know anywhere besides craigslist that is good to find these bikes.

I have found some info on here I'm going to have to try to figure out how to join and use the yahoo group.
Thank you for the info.

If you're in the U.S. http://www.suzukipartshouse.com is a good spot. If you're in the Midwest, http://www.newmotorcycleparts.com is a good source and it's where I get most of my parts.

As far as where to find bikes, all the normal spots, I guess. There's no suzuki-specific swap/sales site that I know of.
