Currently, I have early K external spring forks. Is there any type on internal spring/damper forks that will interchange? My end goal is to lower the front end of the bike and throw on some gaiters. So far the simplest way seems to cut and rethread the damper with a 7mm dye.
Those forks have early (read crude) cartridge damping and you want to fit even cruder damper rods. Why not go to modern 20mmcartridges inside the old legs? Not a straight swap but possible.

All I'm saying is that modern forks contain a cartridge that looks much like the damping in those forks. If you strip say a set of cheap GSXR/R6 etc forks you'll find a damper assembly inside that could probably be made to fit inside your forks. You can work out a preload adjuster and damping adjustment fairly simply if you have access to a lathe. The bottom adjuster would be more difficut, so go with a fixed orifice.
