winter project completed (now with a videoclip)

Hey guys, just joined the site. I'm addicted already! Here's what got me through the winter. I tore down the cb 750 down to the frame. Powdercoated frame, and other bits and pieces. Moved electrics, and battery under the seat. Removed rear passenger pegs. I did the tank and seat a couple months before. Some other things I did to it. Relaced the wheels. Sandblasted the motor. New wiring harness. New signals. New rear suspension. Installed tapered steering bearing. And uhhh...I'm sure there's a couple more things.

Welcome to the forum.
That's a real nice lookin bike you got there.

Where'd you get your seat? Looks like a Carpy seat to me...?

I got the seat from motocarrera.com after many weeks of searching for it. I kinda based the look from his bikes.

Love to hear more about moving the electrics - what sort of battery did you use? I'm thinking of doing the same. Beautiful ride! Nice work on the tank too - just hammered in or did you cut/weld?

I'd like to see that too.. someone should post some details (& PICS) in the 1-800-CAFE-HELP section about relocating electrics / battery.

Alright, about the electrics and battery...well, for the electrics, what I did was bent and shaped a piece of aluminum so that I could bolt it down where the original battery box would have been. I made it so that it was somewhat tight to the width of the frame, so that you can't see anything from looking underneath. Then I drilled holes so that I could bolt down the starter solenoid, which is on its side, fuse box, regulator. Everything else is just kinda sitting there. They're not going anywhere, heh. It's a reallllllly tight fit, but works.

As for the battery, I used the original battery box, but cut it down where I needed. I used a regular size battery, but it's a sealed type. I needed to mount it upside down. It's really close to the rear tire. I have about 1 1/2" from battery to tire. Though, the new springs are really stiff, and doesn't come that close to rubbing. I also bent some 90 degree steel brackets to the angle needed to fit in the existing holes that were in the frame to mount the battery box to the frame. I used just about every milimeter that I could to get it to fit in the hump. That's why it's on an angle.

The tank...one night I just started pounding on it with a hammer. I was thinking about getting a different style anyways, but thought I'd give this a shot. After I slapped some bondo, I was pleased with the result. So I kept it. But if I were to do it again, I would of spent a lot more time on sanding, and other prepping. After painting, you can really see many many imperfections. Ah well, if you stand like ten feet back, it looks kinda good!

Here's some pics to clarify some things...

Re: winter project completed

Nice touch with the battery, mounting it upside down under the hump.
Very trick.

Re: winter project completed

Welcome Aboard!!.. I love what you did with the tank!!

I Think I"ll do the same with a cb750f tank that I have....

Great Job!!

Re: winter project completed (now with a soundclip)

Couldn't stand not to hear this thing whenever I want to, so I took a little video clip. Puts a grin on my face everytime ;D

hehe. Thanks. I didn't know that. That was the first time I ever uploaded a video.

Nice rumble to that exhaust. 8)

Mine's too quite. I have a Kerker 4>1, which I loved being quite after switching from a Yosh pipe with no baffle. Now I'd like a little more rumble. I tried removing the baffle the other day, but after 20 odd years, she's reluctant to come out. :(

Here's mine:

Oh yeah, I'm with you. I like being able to hear my bike at work or where ever. :D

exdrocca,

A few questions on your exhaust:
1. What kinda header do you have ?
2. Where did ya ge the tip u have on there ?
3. Is the tip open, or did you pack it with something ?

I ask becasue I am on the fence on what to do with my stock MAC 4 into 1 on my CB750.

I love the sound, but I cant deal with the look of that nasty stock cannon...
