Wiring woes

Been Around the Block
My project bike, a cb450 is ready for reassembly.

My wiring harness is crispy and cut up. Should I buy a wiring harness on eBay? Should I try to make my own?

I've never made a harness and not sure how.

What say you?

I think is sort of depends on what you're doing, and how confident you are at reading a wiring diagram and building a harness yourself.

My CB400F is fairly custom, and I'm modernizing some of the electrics, so a stock harness isn't even going to wire up right. I plan on getting a bullet connector kit from someone like vintageconnections.com and making a new one from scratch. If you go this route, make sure you get the right bullet connectors if you're using any stock parts. Most Hondas seem to be 3.5mm connectors, while other manufacturers used 4mm.

If it's a bare-bones bike with just the basics then wiring it yourself isn't a big deal, but if most things are in their original places (like the battery, regulator, rectifier etc.) then get a used harness and save yourself tons of time and money.

I wired up my XS from scratch, but it's kickstart only, I moved the battery and all the charging bits, etc.

Found this thread on the electrical forum when I was looking for my 360, not sure if this setup would work for your bike but I would imagine they are pretty similar. The black lines are power in this picture.
